Local roundup: PCT sweeps softball doubleheader

Penn College improved to 11-9 thanks to a sweep of Morrisville State in college softball Sunday.

In the first game, Williamsport grad Taylor Brooks led the Wildcats thanks to a 2 for 2 performance with a double and three RBIs.

Penn College scored four runs in the fourth inning in the second contest to take a six-run lead.

Junior Kayla Kline tripled in two runs to highlight a three-run fifth inning and Williamsport grad Mikayla Aldenderfer earned her second straight complete-game win as Lycoming defeated Albright in the second game of a doubleheader, 4-2. The Warriors fell in the opener, 5-0.

Aldenderfer scattered six hits through seven innings of work.

In the opener, Camille Sears didn’t allow Lycoming to collect a hit as the Warriors as a team went 0 for 20.

Lacey O’Donnell went 7 for 8 with nine RBIs to lead Mansfield to a pair of wins at Clarion, 15-4 and 18-5, both in five innings.

Joelle Snyder added a double for Mansfield.

Raeanne Geffert struck out a career-high 15 batters and had a perfect game broken up with two outs in the seventh inning as she pitched Bucknell past Lafayette, 2-0, in a Patriot League game.

• Lock Haven won both games of a doubleheader against Mansfield in college baseball, 7-5 and 4-1.

In the second game, Hughesville grad Avery Eddy threw four innings to earn the win, allowing just two hits. For Mansfield, North Penn-Mansfield grad Bryce Zaparzynski threw 6 2/3 innings in the loss.

Loyalsock grad Jimmy Webb went 2 for 4 with a double in the second game for the Bald Eagles.

Penn College lost both games of a road doubleheader to Keuka College, 2-1 and 5-4. In the first game, Connor Burke went 2 for 3 with a double for Penn College.

In game two, Kittle, Jacob Carles, Brittan Kittle and Alex Flicker all hit doubles and Ethan Ketterman had a triple.

• In women’s track and field, Hughesville grad Autumn Avery, a sophomore at Bloomsburg, hit a PSAC qualifying time in the 1,500 with a personal-best time of 4:53.41 to finish second overall this weekend at the Millersville Metrics in Millersville.

Bloomsburg freshman Kaylie Schans, a Montoursville grad, helped the 3,200 relay team take ninth with a time of 4:19.59 and finished 12th in the long jump (5.02 meters) and 400 hurdles (1:10.52).

• In men’s tennis, Penn College defeated Penn State Abington, 5-4. Penn College’s Will DeMarco (No. 3 singles), Nicholas Pascual (No. 4), Joseph Morrin (No. 5) and Stephen Helminiak (No. 6) all won in singles competition.

• Penn College lost in women’s tennis to Penn State Abington, 9-0. The Wildcats’ marcie Harman lost at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1 to Isabella Blackwell.

• All three Lycoming College men’s golf team members improved during the second day of the Susquehanna University Spring Invitational at the par-70, 6,261-yard Susquehanna Valley Country Club.

After opening the tournament with a 91, senior Alec Sabatino melted four strokes off his score for an 87 to finish with a 178.

Freshman Andrew Everetts, a North Penn-Mansfield grad, also dropped four strokes off his total, posting a 94 after a first day 98 to finish with a 192. Junior Aaron Willsea, a Wellsboro native, dropped a stroke, posting a 98 after a first day 99 to finish with a 197.

• St. John Neumann defeated Benton, 7-2, in high school baseball. Jaiden Cioffi went 2 for 4 with a home run and scored two runs. Jeff Hamilton also added a home run for the Golden Knights (1-1).
