ROUNDUP: Williamsport tennis edges Jersey Shore

Emma Campbell and Abby Robertson won a hard-fought No. 1 doubles match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 as Williamsport edged Jersey Shore, 3-2, in girls high school tennis on Wednesday. The Millionaires took two of three singles matches with Mary Hillman and Allyson McCann winning in straight sets. Emilee Stetts won at No. 2 singles for Jersey Shore, while Rahel Hartman and Anna Larks were victorious at No. 2 doubles.

Montgomery clinched the Mid-Penn League championship with a 5-0 win over St. John Neumann. The Red Raiders swept the singles matches without surrendering a game as Clara Ulrich, Jenna Waring and Sammy Ulrich earned wins.

Montoursville swept five three-set matches to move to 8-6 with a 5-0 win over Bloomsburg. Rei Saar rallied after dropping the first set to win 7-5, 6-2 in the final two sets at No. 2 singles. Maddie Adams also dropped her first set but won the final two, 6-4, 6-2 to take the win at third singles.

• Lauren Anderson scored two goals and Emilie Nagel produced a goal and two assists as Muncy defeated Montgomery, 5-2 in girls soccer. Jewels Tawney scored for Montgomery, cutting a two-goal deficit to 2-1, but Anderson answered three minutes later. Mia Edkin and Avery Bigelow also scored for Muncy.

• Caiden Alexander scored four goals and Derek Litzelman three as North Penn-Liberty defeated Northeast Bradford, 7-4. Alexander scored his four goals in the first half when Liberty took a 5-2 lead. Alexander and Litzelman also each had an assist.

James Koconis and Anthony Bhangdia each scored a pair of goals as Lewisburg finished a season sweep of Williamsport with an 8-0 win. Ben Liscum added a goal and two assists, and Jack Dieffenderfer scored a goal and added an assist for the Green Dragons.

Conner Smith tallied a hat trick as Milton posted a 4-1 win over Southern Columbia. The Black Panthers held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks, and Tyler Flederbach recorded five saves.

Matt Barone posted a goal and an assist and Caleb Albaugh made eight saves in the shutout as Loyalsock defeated Hughesville, 4-0. Conner Sullivan scored the Lancers’ first goal and Jay Oaks added a goal with 29 seconds left in the first half.

Breck Miller scored twice and Connor Cornelius and Alex Butzler both had an assist in Jersey Shore’s 3-0 win over Mifflinburg. The Bulldogs held Mifflinburg to no shots.

Bryce Bean scored the tying goal early for Montoursville, but Selinsgrove scored 10 unanswered goals in an 11-1 win over the Warriors. Zach Baylor and Mason Lauchle each recorded three saves for the Warriors.

Wellsboro’s Brock Hamblin had the league’s lowest scoring average in high school golf as the Northern Tier League announced its awards. Hamblin was a first-team NTL selection and was named MVP. Wellsboro’s Andrew Merriman was named the NTL Rookie of the Year

Cowanesque Valley’s Joel Heckman and North Penn-Mansfield’s Andrew Green, Ethan Weiskopff and Reece White were all first-team All-NTL selections as well.

On the All-NTL second team were North Penn-Mansfield’s Curtis Craig and Alex Stein as well as Cowanesque Valley’s Skylar Smith.
