Local roundup: Nick Trevouledes scores a career-high 30 in Hughesville’s home opening win over Midd-West

Nick Trevouledes was outstanding at the foul line and scored a career-high 30 points, helping Hughesville win its home opener, 78-72 against Midd-West. Hughesville’s point guard went 14 of 16 at the line in a game which featured 71 combined free throws. Dylan Bieber added 13 points for the Spartans who scored 44 first-half points.

The Ali brothers dazzled at Bloomsburg as Idris scored a career-high 30 points and Saraj recorded his third straight double-double. Idris scored at least five points in each quarter as Loyalsock topped 20 points in each of the final three and improved to 3-0 in this matchup of defending District 4 champions. Saraj scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, his third straight game reaching 20 points. Eli Gair added 10 points.

Isaiah Niemcyzk scored a game-high 19 points and Canton drained 10 3-pointers as it defeated Sayre, 68-58 in its season opener. Cooper Kitchen (13 points) and Tyler Jannone (12) also scored in double figures and each hit three 3-pointers. The game featured 20 3-pointers.

Joey Martin scored a career-high 22 points and Lewisburg played outstanding defense as it won its second straight game, defeating Millville, 54-30. The Green Dragons (2-1) broke things open with a 16-4 third-quarter run and Jake Hernandez scored 13 points.

Montoursville’s Dillon Young had a shot late in the closing seconds, but it didn’t fall as Shamokin walked away with an exciting 50-48 win against the Warriors. Landon Reeder and Peyton Mussina led Montoursville with 15 points each and Young added 10.

In girls basketball, Faith Persing and Clara Ulrich both enjoyed career-best games and helped Montgomery win its first game. Persing scored a career-high 21 points and Ulrich a career-best 16 as Montgomery broke open a close game in the second half. Morgan Tupper added eight points.

Aislyn Williams scored a game-high 12 points, helping Canton defeat Cowanesque Valley, 34-24 and win its season opener. Abby Ackley led CV with nine points and Logan Hamilton added eight.

Devon Walker score 15 points to help Jersey Shore cruise past Troy, 45-19. The Bulldogs trailed by two points after the first quarter before taking a 24-11 lead into the half. Aubrey Schilling had 11 blocks for Jersey Shore.

Williamsport fell to Central Columbia, 92-75, in boys swimming while the girls defeated the Blue Jays, 122-56.

On the boys side, Jack Beattie won the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 238.45. He also placed second in the 200 IM with a time of 2 minutes, 16.79 seconds.

On the girls side, Amy Jarvis came up big with two individual wins in the 200 free (2:11.61) and the 100 free (58.75). Cecilia Fink won the 500 free in 6:07.94, winning by seven seconds.

The Jersey Shore girls defeated Bloomsburg, 81-71, while the  boys lost, 85-48.

Meaghan Keegan won two individual events in the 100 fly and 100 breast and helped the 200 free relay team win in 2:19.52. Keegan won the 100 fly by seven seconds and 100 breast by 19 seconds. Abby Wall edged out Bloomsburg’s Bella Luxardo by just 0.24 seconds in the 100 free.

On the boys side, Xavier Barlet was a two-time winner, claiming a victory in the 100 back and helping the 200 free relay team win in 2:06.95. He was joined on the relay team by Artie Dammer, Jason Grant and Caleb Stemler. In the 100 back, Barlet won in 1:20.08, winning by 22 seconds.

Milton defeated Warrior Run in high school wrestling, 46-18. The Black Panthers closed out the match with three consecutive pinfalls by Jason Valladares (172 pounds), Aven Ayala (189) and Nathan Rauch (215) in 3:06, 1:31 and 1:17, respectively.

Montoursville cruised past Hughesville, 63-7. Cael Crebs won by fall at 189 pounds in just 46 seconds and Kayden Frame won for the Warriors by fall in 57 seconds at 145.
