Kegler’s Korner: Alex Crist bowls a pair of 300 games last week

Bowling in the Monday Night Classic League last week, Alex Crist rolled two 300 games — one in the first game and one in the last game — to reach his 844 series, the top male score of the week. The best female series was Noreen Smith’s 639 in the Faxon Classic, while 17-year-old Elizabeth Coffee bowled a 245 game in the Faxon Youth League to best all females in that category.

Keith Buck and Curtis Baker also recorded perfect games in the Monday Night Classic League, as did Pat Eckman in the Andy Tressler Memorial League. That 12th strike eluded Steve Jackson in the Monday Night Classic and DeWayne Harris in the Inter-community League, as they each settled for a 299 game.

This week we remember Charles Rosenbaum, who was inducted into the local Hall of Fame in 1999. Like many bowlers of his time, Rosenbach moved from setting pins as a youth in the early 1940s to bowling in adult leagues by the end of that decade. He achieved his high career average of 202 during the 1985-86 season.

With a high career series of 793, Rosenbaum bowled one 300 game as well as four other games above 290. A participant in the County Association tournament for over 35 years, Rosenbaum won the All Events title in 1960, and the doubles crown in 1992 to go along with team championships in 1978 and 1982.

Known as a bowler’s bowler, “Bud” was always ready to help a fellow bowler, as witnessed by several sportsmanship awards he won in leagues over the years.

Hope to see you on the lanes.
