Local roundup: Lycoming women’s lacrosse falls to FDU-Florham

By From staff reports 7 min read

Junior Ericka Boyer notched a hat trick and the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team scored a season-high six goals, but undefeated FDU-Florham pulled away late for a 21-6 MAC Freedom win.

Boyer scored all three of her goals in the first half after FDU-Florham scored the first 10 goals of the game. The junior got the Warriors on the board in the 24th minute, before adding a free-position goal and then a nifty shot that beat the keeper to the right with 11 seconds left in the half to make it 11-3.

The Lock Haven University women's lacrosse team (1-1, 1-1 PSAC West) was edged 12-11 on the road at IUP (2-2, 2-1 PSAC West) in overtime.

Lock Haven led at the half, but IUP tied the game late in regulation and the hosts found the game-winner with seconds left in the extra frame.

For LHU, both Caitlin Morrow and Krysta Reading recorded hat tricks, while Casey Hibbard added a pair of goals.

Sophomore Rory Hines and freshman Max Anderson each posted two goals to lead the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team, but a five-goal fourth-quarter lifted FDU-Florham to a 10-8 MAC Freedom win.

Junior Josh Hall led the Warriors with five groundballs and two caused turnovers and junior Owen Zimmerman added a goal and two assists for the Warriors (0-2 overall, 0-1 MAC Freedom).

The Lycoming College women's tennis team won two of three doubles matches, but Misericordia University won five of six in singles play to post a 6-3 win. Senior Madi Heller, a Williamsport grad, and junior Wiliana Lundy posted an 8-5 win over Hailey Loughlin and Lauren Visalli at No. 2 and first-years Emily Wolfgang, a Montgomery grad, nd Hannah Seebold, a Milton grad, notched an 8-3 win over Cassandra Benderavich and Kayla Rembish at No. 3.

Former Wellsboro teammates sophomore Nate Redell and freshman Luke Leach each won their first career singles match for the Lycoming College men's tennis team, as it posted an 8-1 non-conference win over Misericordia.

The Warriors (1-0 overall) swept through doubles play, with Redell and senior Cody Greenaway, a Milton grad, posting an 8-7 (3) win over Zack Hemond and Matt McCaffery at No. 1, Leach and junior Casey Haas, a Montoursville grad, added an 8-0 win over Noah Drayton and Ethan Snyder at No. 2 and sophomores Jason Anderson and Frank Summerson, a South Williamsport grad, added an 8-1 win over Payton Argot and Karol Bialek.

Four innings where the Lycoming College softball team put together more than one run were more than enough to lift it to a MAC Freedom doubleheader sweep of Delaware Valley, 10-2 and 6-0.

In the first game, the four through eight batters in the lineup each had two hits a piece as a four-run first and five-run fourth inning were more than enough for Lycoming (2-2 overall, 2-2 MAC Freedom) to post a 10-2 five-inning win over Delaware Valley (1-4 overall, 0-3 MAC Freedom).

Sophomore Morgan Wetzel, a Central Mountain grad, paced the Warriors from the cleanup position, going 2 for 4 with three runs, two RBI, a triple and a homer. Junior Morgan Klosko went 3 for 4 with a run, two RBI and a double, freshman Kylie Segraves — a Williamsport grad — went 2 for 3 with two runs, junior Morgan Christine went 2 for 2 with a run, RBI and double and freshman Rachel DeWolfe went 2 for 3 with two RBI.

Junior Alexis Easling and senior Hannah Breitigan combined to drive in eight runs to lead Mansfield to a split with East Stroudsburg, losing 4-2 before winning 8-6.

Breitigan scored twice, notched her second double of the day and knocked in two runs, while Easling finished 3-for-3 with her first home run of the season and four RBI to lead the Mounties (1-5, 1-5 PSAC East) to an 8-6 victory in the nightcap.

Freshman Dylan Mercedes tied game at one in game two in the top of the seventh for the Mansfield University baseball team, but East Stroudsburg University walked off in the next frame to cap off a 9-4, 2-1 home sweep in PSAC East action.

Led by a valiant effort from senior Colby Shimmell, the Mounties (2-8, 1-5 PSAC East) found themselves in a pitcher’s duel until the very end in game two against the recent No. 18 ranked team in the country, East Stroudsburg (7-3, 5-1 PSAC East).

Lock Haven dropped both games of a PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader at Millersville as the two teams opened their weekend series. Millersville won game one, 13-0 and edged out Lock Haven, 2-1 in game two.

In game one, Millersville scored 13 runs on 15 hits.

Reagan Lawlor was 2 for 3 at the plate in the opener and Joe Shannon went 3 for 3.

Shannon put LHU up 1-0 in the second inning with a solo home run, but Millersville plated two in the bottom of the fourth in game two.

Zack Skrabski placed 10th overall and he was one of five All-Conference finishers as the Lock Haven University men's cross country team placed third overall in the team standings at the 2020-21 PSAC Championships.

Skrabski covered the 5K course in 15:43.0 and finished 10th out of 122 total runners. He was one of five LHU runners who finished among the top 20. To earn All-Conference honors, one must have finished in the top-30.
