Senior Dominick Massaro led the Lycoming College men's lacrosse team with four goals and an assist, but Arcadia used two five-goal quarters to post a 17-9 MAC Freedom win.
Sophomore Rory Hines added two goals, junior Blake Premo had two assists and junior Owen Zimmerman notched a goal and an assist for Lycoming.
Junior Lacey O’Donnell and senior Joelle Snyder combined for five hits, two runs and two RBI to lead the Mansfield University softball team in game two, but Bloomsburg University held on for a 5-3 victory to secure a PSAC East sweep. The Mounties fell, 14-5, in the opener.
In the nightcap, Bloomsburg scored the first run in the bottom of the first, but Snyder drove in O’Donnell in the top of the third to knot things at one.
Lock Haven split a doubleheader in PSAC East action against Shepherd, losing the first contest, 8-0, in five innings before winning game two, 3-2.
Shepherd stifled the Bald Eagles’ offense in game one, allowing just two singles.
In the second game, Warrior Run grad Madison Waltman earned her fourth win in the circle by throwing all seven innings and striking out four.
Despite being held to just one hit — a triple by Summer Peters — the Bald Eagles managed to defeat Shepherd thanks to a two-run fifth inning to take the lead.
Two doubles and three RBIs from junior Morgan Klosko helped lift Lycoming College to a 6-4 win in the second game of a doubleheader at Wilkes after falling, 4-3, in the first game.
Sophomore Payton Whary pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and three earned runs. She walked one and struck out one. After allowing six hits in the first two innings, she allowed just a single and a walk in the final five, slamming the door shut on a Wilkes comeback by getting the last seven batters that she faced.
Down 4-2 in the third, the Warriors started to rally with one out off a single from sophomore Morgan Wetzel, a Central Mountain grad, who stole second and scored on an opposite field double from Klosko to make it 4-3. Senior Taylor Gessner, a Lewisburg native, tied the game with a double to center, driving in Klosko. An error, walk and fielder's choice loaded the bases before two runs scored on a single up the middle from sophomore Kaleigh Kinley.
Senior Hunter DePrimo threw his third complete game and junior Assaf Lowengart hit his fifth home run on the year to lead the Mansfield University baseball team to a 5-3 victory in the opening game of a PSAC East series with Bloomsburg University. The Huskies won game two, 6-0 to earn the split on the day.
With the victory in game one, the Mounties (7-15, 6-12 PSAC East) end a nine-game losing streak with the Huskies (10-8, 10-8 PSAC East) and have won their most conference games since 2017.
DePrimo (4-2) was flawless in six out of seven innings, allowing just the three runs in the sixth, while striking out a PSAC-leading 13 hitters to earn the win. DePrimo moves up to second in the conference for strikeouts this season with 56.
Lock Haven was swept in a PSAC East doubleheader by Shepherd, losing the opener, 5-3, and having a game two comeback fall shy, 5-4.
Justin Lichtenwalner turned in a fine day at the plate going 4-7 with one walk. The sophomore drove in two runs including a solo home run in game two.
In the second game, Lichtenwalner and Joe Shannon both hit home runs and Gavin Troutman and Mike O’Halloran added doubles.
For the second consecutive day, Maddy Reeves, a Montoursville grad, battled back to win at No. 1 singles and McCartney Register, a Central Mountain grad, posted an individual victory for the Bald Eagles as well, but the Lock Haven University women’s tennis team lost to Shippensburg, 5-2.
Reeves and teammate Natalie Brown, a Central Mountain grad, also recorded a dominating 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 4 singles, Montgomery grad Saige Whipple fell to Shippensburg’s Kayla Tryanski, 6-1, 6-2.
First-year Carter Branigan posted school-record breaking times in the 100 and 400 IMs to lead the Lycoming College men’s swimming team during the second day of the virtual Middle Atlantic Conference Championships.
Branigan topped Chris Dempsey's 400 IM mark of 4:20.70 set in 2006 in the first individual event of the night, posting a 4:17.48 to knock the mark off. In a time trial at the end of the night, he posted a time of 56.08 in the 100-yard individual medley to knock off Andrew Canavan's school record of 56.36 set in 2017 and pool record of 59.11 set the same year.
On the women's side, the Warriors also had several strong performances, led by senior Cara Zortman, who notched a 2:01.84 in the 200-yard freestyle.
The 800 medley relay team of first-year swimmers Elisa DiNicola, Ruth Kauffman, Courtney Chapman and Zortman notched an impressive 8:30.48. DiNicole is a Loyalsock grad.
The 200 medley relay team of Kauffman, junior Devon Kaiser, Chapman and first-year Sarah Loucks notched a time of 2:06.73.
In a final tune-up for the MAC Freedom Championship, the Lycoming College golf team's three golfers continued to show marked improvement at the par-72, 6,633-yard course.
Paired together, junior Michael Turck again led the Warriors, as he shot a 95, a 10-stroke improvement over his round last Sunday at Susquehanna Valley Country Club. Senior Matt Kalyan shaved 15 strokes off his best round, finishing with a 108 and senior Len Wyda posted a 112, 13 strokes better than his last round.
Freshman-sprinter Ryan Miller stepped up to 800 and posted victory, and fellow rookie teammate Tanner Walter set a meet record on the way to his win at 3,000 as the duo led the way for the Lock Haven University men's outdoor track and field team at East Stroudsburg's All-American meet.
Over the last month, the start to Miller's career at The Haven has been nothing short of spectacular as he has run personal-best after personal-best and he continues to pace all PSAC men's 400 runners with the top mark this season. Miller made his open 800 debut and cruised to victory with an impressive time of 1:57.11. He ran negative splits (59.214, 57.896) on the way to the win. Miller's only other career 800-meter effort was a 2:05 relay split in high school.
On the women’s side, distance-standout Laurel Moyer, a Central Mountain grad, turned in another brilliant record-breaking effort and sprinter Riyana Owens capped a strong individual double with a win at 200.
Moyer was victorious in the 3,000-meter race with a sizzling school-record time of 9:53.72. It also established a meet record and sits as the second fastest time run in the event this season by a Division II runner. Last week, Moyer shattered her own school record in the 5,000 run and Saturday’s school-record put an exclamation point on an amazing month of running for the Lock Haven native.
Owens won the 200 dash with a personal-best time of 25.34. It ranks among the top-five this season in the PSAC. She was also second in the 100-meter dash with a season-best time of 12.34.
