Kyle Larson comes up victorious at Williams Grove Speedway
The All-Star Circuit of Champions visited central Pennsylvania last weekend and it was quite a weekend for the fans.
At Williams Grove, Kyle Larson claimed his first sprint car win of the year on Friday night for a $6,000 payday in the All-Stars Tommy Hinnershitz Classic. It was his second win in a row in one of the track’s marquee events for the big sprint cars after also scoring the race last season.
“It’s cool to get a win our first night out,” Larson had recently scored a huge win in dirt late model action in Bristol, Tennessee. Prior to that, he scored his first NASCAR Sprint Series checkers of the season on the tour while wheeling for Rick Hendrick.
On Friday night, Larson overtook good friend Lance Dewease on lap 10 to drive away to a popular win aboard Paul Silva’s No. 57 in the All-Stars Circuit of Champions sprints event.
“I used to hate this place. Once I came here with Paul I don’t know if we’ve been outside the top 3 or 4,” Larson said in victory lane. “Now that I’m fast, I love this place.”
Also in action at the Grove, Wyatt Hinkle led the first lap of the 20-lap 358 sprint main before Tyler Breahm drove into the lead. Defending track champion Derek Locke started eighth in the field and was already up to second behind Brehm on lap 4. Brehm drove a stout race and forced Locke to wrestle him for the lead before the Carlisle driver got around for control with eight laps to go. It was Locke’s fourth career oval victory.
Next up was the Keith Kauffman Classic where the three-time Port Royal Speedway track champion, Logan Wagner raised his All Star win total to two, earning a cool $10,000 in the process. Wagner’s last visit to all-star victory lane occurred at Lernerville Speedway in 2017.
Port was back in action Sunday night where not even a brief rain shower early in the evening could halt Jonathan Davenport. The three-time Lucas Oil late model dirt series national champion sprinted to his first series win of 2021, which came in the River Valley 40. Davenport became the 10th winner in the first 12 races this season on the LOLMDS tour, and the first driver to win a race from the pole starting position.
On Saturday night, it was the 18th annual Weldon Sterner Memorial which was one for the ages with three leaders on the final lap. In the end, Freddie Rahmer came out on top winning the $6,900 in his first win of the season at Lincoln.
Ashley Cappetta and Wyatt Hinkle shared the front row for the 20-lap 358 feature Saturday night, and Cappetta held on to take the checkered flag for her second career feature win.
Then the all-stars moved on to Bedford Speedway. One night following his incredible 19 position rally from 21st to finish second in Port Royal Speedway’s annual Keith Kauffman Classic, Anthony Macri (Dillsburg) did one better, literally, and secured his first FloRacing All-Star Circuit of Champions victory of the season. He did so during Bedford Speedway’s Johnny Grum Classic on Sunday. The victory — earning Macri a $6,000 payday — was accomplished from the outside of row two, utilizing a restart with eight laps remaining to work by race-long leader and California invader, Rico Abreu.
