St. John Neumann defeated Sugar Valley, 24-10, in baseball Friday afternoon.
The Golden Knights jumped out to a three-run lead after the first inning and never relented the lead. JerVal Weeks-Shuler, Jeff Hamilton and Naseer Dymeck all had two hits and Weeks-Shuler and Hamilton both drove in four runs each.
Kane Wright earned the win on the mound.
Lewisburg and Mifflinburg were tied 4-4 after eight innings when the game was halted due to darkness. Mifflinburg tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the third inning and both teams scored one run in the seventh.
Hayden Ward went 2 for 2 and combined with Cooper Kitchen on a five-inning one-hitter as Canton defeated Muncy, 13-3. Kitchen added a hit and two RBIs while Brendan Matthews was 1 for 2 with an RBI and two runs. Ethan Landis had a hit, two RBIs and a run. Gio Persun hit an RBI double for Muncy.
Loyalsock defeated Bloomsburg, 3-1. Nick Barone went 2 for 4 with a double and Cooper Larson went 1 for 3. The Lancers held Bloomsburg to just three hits.
• Central Columbia defeated South Williamsport, 7-1, in high school softball. Mea Cosentino threw a one-hitter for the Blue Jays and struck out 13. She threw 71 pitches, 55 of which were strikes.
The two teams were scoreless through four innings before the Blue Jays scored four in the top of the fifth inning when Payton Crawford hit a three-run home run.
• In boys tennis, Muncy defeated South Williamsport, 4-1. The Mounties' only win came at No. 1 singles where Logan Ogden beat Kaleb Meyer in a tough match, 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.
Ernie Coppes won for the Indians at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-1, against Ross Flerlage and Marshall Rothrock earned a 6-0, 7-5 win over Brock Weaver at No. 3 singles.
Hughesville defeated Bloomsburg, 5-0. Logan Burns earned a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles, Mikey Dylina won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-1, and at No. 3 singles, Austin Young picked up a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
With the win, the Spartans are now 3-4.
Towanda defeated North Penn-Liberty, 6-1. The Mounties won at No. 2 doubles when Ian Beck and Dylon Eveland earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Ryan O'Connor and Nate Spencer.
Loyalsock defeated Shikellamy, 3-2. Jett Pulizzi earned a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles for the Lancers. Loyalsock won both doubles matches via forfeit.
Sean Jensen fell at No. 1 singles for the Lancers to CJ Doebler, 6-7, 6-2, superset tiebreak, 11-8.
The Lock Haven University golf team ushered in a new era when Ashley Lawson, Kylee Lobb and Kayla Mushala teed off at the PSAC Championships in Hershey for the first time in school history.
The trio of student athletes will go down in LHU Athletics history as the first ever members of the Bald Eagle golf team. In August 2018, LHU announced the addition of the women's golf at the varsity level.
For coach Chad Anthony, who was named the first women's golf coach in school history in March 2020, the PSAC Championships mark the first time he was able to watch his team perform in a competitive environment because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lobb shot a 132, Lawson shot a 141 and Mushala shot a 143.
Junior Caden Fisher and sophomore Rylie Mong collected top finishes to highlight the Mansfield University track and field team’s Friday afternoon at the Alfred State Early Season Invitational.
The Mounties totaled eight top-five finishes by the end of the meet.
Fisher got the day started in the 110-meter hurdles, taking the top spot finishing with a time of 17.01, a second faster than the rest of the field.
Mong, a Warrior Run graduate, earned her second straight victory with a PR in the pole vault with a mark of 3.35 meters. That mark launches her to third in the conference ranking.
