Crosscutters score 11 in win against Trenton Thunder

TRENTON, N.J. — The Williamsport Crosscutters bounced back from Wednesday’s loss to pummel the Trenton Thunder, 11-2, and improve to 3-1. Williamsport had three players with at least two hits and limited Trenton to just three.

Williamsport scored twice in the second inning before Trenton cut the deficit to 2-1 with a run in the third. After two scoreless innings, Williamsport added a run in the sixth before Trenton countered with one in the seventh.

Holding a slim 3-2 lead entering the eighth inning, Williamsport’s offense exploded as the Cutters scored six runs to blow the game open.

Jaxon Shirley led the Cutters by going 3 for 5 with a team-high five RBIs and a run scored. Chaz Salter was 2 for 5 with three RBIs and Hogan McIntosh went 2 for 5 with two runs scored. Shirley hit two doubles and Salter had a double.

Jordan Hollins had a double for Trenton.

Nick Cosentino earned the win on the mound, throwing three innings and allowing just one run on one hit, two walks and striking out four.

Holden Christian, Dominick Hambley and Owen Holt would come out of the bullpen and allowed just one more run and one more hit, recording 10 strikeouts over the final six innings for Williamsport.

The Crosscutters head to West Virginia today for a three-game series before returning home Monday against Trenton for 1:05 p.m. start at Bowman Field.
