Local roundup: Lewisburg’s Cecchini, CM’s Lindsay fall in state quarterfinals in boys tennis

In the PIAA Class AA singles tournament at the Hershey Racquet Club, Lewisburg senior Evan Cecchini lost in the quarterfinals to District 5 champion Matt Kozar, 6-4, 6-1. Cechini defeated Camp Hill’s Josh Pantaloni, 6-1, 7-6 (5), in the first round. Hughesville senior Logan Burns lost to Lancaster Country Day’s Nile Abadir, the District 3 champion, 6-1, 6-1.

Cecchini was the District 4 champion and Burns was the runner-up.

Cecchini finished in the top 8 in Class AA.

Montoursville’s Andrew Stapp and Jared Matlack lost in the first round in the Class AA doubles tournament to Lancaster Catholic’s Brendan McNamara and George Brubaker, 6-0, 6-1.

Wellsboro’s Will Poirier and Zach Singer, the District 4 champions, also lost in the first round to Conrad Weiser’s Alex Waltz and Jayden Lewis, 6-0, 6-1.

Central Mountain’s David Lindsay lost to Lower Merion’s Vikas Miller in the PIAA Class AAA quarterfinals, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) to finish in the top 8 in the state.

Lindsay battled the entire time and his serve was only broken twice throughout the long two and a half hour match.

“What an impressive season for David. We were extremely pleased with his effort,” Central Mountain coach Pete Wert said.
