PCT softball eliminated in NCAA Division 3 tournament

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Penn College was eliminated in the NCAA Division 3 softball tournament with a 6-5 loss to Gettysburg College. Penn College played the Bullets tough.

The two teams were tied at 3 after the first inning before Penn College took a 5-3 lead in the top of the fourth inning. But Gettysburg slowly chipped away at the lead, scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to one.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Jess Campana reached on a single into right field. It was then Olivia Moser who hit a walk-off, two-run home run to end the game.

Penn College was led by Jordna Specht, who went 2 for 4 with an RBI and run scored. Lesley Fritz went 1 for 3 and had two RBIs.

In the opener of the tournament, Penn College fell to Virginia Wesleyan, 8-0, as Hanna Hull and Emily Seale combined to no-hit the NEAC champion Wildcats.

Hull earned the win to improve to 19-3 by striking out 10 through four innings and didn't issue a walk or hit a batter.

The Marlins jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Julia Sinnett hit a double to left to bring in Madison Glaubke. Virginia Wesleyan added two more in the third inning thanks to a sac fly by Sinnett and a triple from Katelyn Biando.

The Marlins collected 11 hits as Glaubke went 2 for 2 with a double, Sinnett was 2 for 2 with three RBIs, Biando had a triple and Daja Stewart went 2 for 3 wtih a home run and two RBIs.

Penn College secured a spot in the NCAA Division 3 tournament thanks to winning the NEAC Championship this past Saturday, sweeping Penn State Harrisburg in a best-of-three series.
