Local roundup: Mansfield’s English finds success in pros

MADEIRA, Portugal -- Mansfield University men's basketball standout center Trevor English was named to the All-Portuguese Proliga and All-Imports first team, and was named Center of the Year following his first full season of professional basketball.

English adjusted to the professional level quickly, while showcasing his dominant presence in the low post with impressive numbers in rebounding and efficient scoring. English averaged 17.2 points and nine rebounds per game to lead AD Galomar to the postseason.

English was signed by AD Galomar, an affiliate of the 1st Division League in the FPA, in August 2020.

"Trevor is an incredibly talented player with a bright future ahead of him," SML Sports Agency said in an Instagram post. "We are excited to see where his career takes him."

The 6-foot, 8-inch center registered nine double-doubles as a senior and was second on the team in scoring at 13.8 points per game after starting his career with three straight 20-point games. English scored in double-digits in 22 games while going over 20 points in six.

• For the fifth straight semester, the Lycoming College men's and women's swim teams have earned Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American Team honors.

The women's swim team earned the accolades for the 15th straight semester, a streak dating back to the spring semester of 2014. The women's program was one of nine teams from the Middle Atlantic Conference selected.

The men's team earned the award for the 13th time in program history and for a record fifth straight semester. The team was one of eight from the MAC selected.

• Hepburn/Lycoming defeated Muncy, 10-0, to advance to the District 12 major baseball quarterfinals. They will play Jersey Shore GSV -- a 4-1 winner against Keystone -- Friday at Keystone at 4:45 p.m.

Keystone falls into the elimination bracket and will face Muncy at Montoursville on Thursday.

East Lycoming defeated South Williamsport, 5-1, to also advance to the quarterfinals. South Williamsport plays again today against Loyalsock at Montoursville in an elimination contest.

• In the District 12 major softball tournament, Clinton beat Jersey Shore, 23-2, to move on to the championship game. Jersey Shore will try to extend its season as it falls into the elimination bracket and will face either Loyalsock or Williamsport on Wednesday at Short Park at 5:45 p.m.
