Hepburn Lycoming major baseball loses in first round of states

Hepburn Lycoming’s major baseball suffered its first loss of the postseason after falling to Greencastle, 11-5, in the first round of the Pennsylvania state tournament.

Greencastle jumped out to a huge lead in the top of the first inning by scoring seven unearned runs. Of Greencastle’s 11 runs, 10 were unearned.

Hepburn Lycoming will look to rebound against Hollidaysburg in an elimination game at 11 a.m. in Conyngham on Sunday.

DJ Harris helped spark Hepburn Lycoming’s offense when he hit a three-run home run to cut the deficit to 11-5 in the sixth inning. Harris ended the day going 2 for 2. Connor Hofstram also went 2 for 2 for Hepburn Lycoming with a double.

Hepburn Lycoming threw Briar Persing, Cooper Roman, LJ Hill, Ethan Hugar and Jensen Spencer.

After Greencastle took a 7-0 lead, Hepburn Lycoming scored a run in the bottom of the first inning. Jaxson March reached with a single and later scored. Hepburn Lycoming added another run in the bottom of the second inning. Conor Hofstrom started the inning off with a single and scored thanks to an error and single to cut the deficit to 7-2.

The score remained 7-2 after four innings before Greencastle added three insurance runs thanks to two errors, two walks and a single.

Greencastle was led by Landon Myers (double), Chase Diller (three walks, three runs) and Collin Flynn (two singles, run).
