TRENTON, N.J. -- The Trenton Thunder scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and it proved to be the difference as Trenton defeated Williamsport, 7-2, Thursday afternoon in an MLB Draft League game.
Chad McDaniel and Ben Norman both doubled in the first inning before Daryl Myers hit an RBI single to drive in a run. Jordan Hollins had a two-run home run as well to help Trenton take the 5-0 lead.
Myers and McDaniel both went 2 for 4 for the Thunder. Hollins hit the team's only home run. Trenton also collected four doubles, coming from McDaniel (two), Daniel Harris IV and Norman.
Williamsport was led by Sean Ross, who went 2 for 5 with a run scored. Michael Trautwein had Williamsport's only extra-base hit when he hit a double. He also had two RBIs.
Isaac Nunez, Chaz Salter, Robert Marinec and Freddie Matos all had singles for Williamsport as well.
Williamsport cut the deficit to 5-1 after scoring in the top of the sixth and then made it a 5-2 deficit with a run in the top of the seventh. Trenton would score a run in the seventh and eighth to go back ahead by five.
The Crosscutters host Mahoning Valley today and Saturday before consecutive games at Frederick on Sunday and Monday.
