Milton had two swimmers reach district qualifying times over the weekend at the Blue Jay Invitational meet at Bloomsburg University. Both swimmers are new to Milton's team as well.
Ruby Newcomer hit a mark of 1:15.89 in the 100 fly and almost hit a qualifying time in the 100 free by finishing in 28.56. Camden Weaver reached a qualifying time in the 100 free with a time of 58.09.
Maria Painter finished the 200 free in fourth in 2:20.69, dropping 19.53 seconds off her time and dropped time in the 100 free as well to take eighth.
Riley Godown dropped 9.01 in the 200 free, Kayli johnson dropped 19.17 in the 100 back and Sara Dewyer improved her times in the 50 and 100 free races.
On the boys side, the Black Panthers placed sixth overall without Hunter Zettlemoyer in the lineup. Xavier Godown improved his 200 free time by placing ninth in 2:12.47 and fourth in the 500 free, dropping 6.77 to finish 6:05.76.
"He is determined to get to districts," Milton coach Veronica Gee said.
Bradley Newcomer was strong in the 100 fly by placing sixth in 1:13.91 and took 10th in the breaststroke.
Farrell Sipe placed seventh in the 100 fly.
Milton is back in the pool this afternoon at Bloomsburg.
Peyton Dincher scored 15 points, Jocelyn McCracken scored nine and Rachel Lorson added eight as Jersey Shore defeated Danville, 44-35, on Monday in girls basketball.
The Bulldogs didn’t allow any Danville player to score more than eight points.
Maddy Adams scored 13 points and Maddy Labatch added 10, but Montoursville fell on the road to Southern Columbia, 71-47.
The Tigers held a 25-12 lead after the first quarter and Montoursville couldn’t quite rally.
Alaina Marchioni and Labatch each had two 3-pointers.
Southern was led by Alli Griscavage’s 27 points and Summer Tillett’s 19.
Sophie Kilbride had a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double with two assists, but Lewisburg fell at home to Selinsgrove, 31-29.
The Green Dragons held a 16-12 lead at the half, but a 13-6 advantage in the third by Selinsgrove helped the Seals pull away.
Maddie Still had five rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Canton defeated Meadowbrook Christian, 44-31. Both teams were tied after one (10-10) before Canton proceeded to outscore Meadowbrook in each of the final three quarters.
Kendall Kitchen scored 17 points to lead Canton and Caralyn Thomen added 10. Molly Ward had 13 rebounds, four steals and two blocks and Aislyn Williams had eight assists, five rebounds and a steal.
Kailey Devlin scored 20 for Meadowbrook Christian.
Williamson cruised past New Covenant, 48-9, and held New Covenant to 3 or fewer points in each quarter.
Taylor Rae Jones and Olivia Meisner each scored 13 points for Williamson. Gracie Stephens added six points.
• Despite a 21-point performance from Mason Sheesley — fueled by seven 3-pointers — Warrior Run fell to Midd-West, 64-49. The Defenders held a 23-14 lead after the first quarter, but the Mustangs pulled away in the second half.
Nathan Axtman added nine for the Defenders.
Isaiah Niemczyk scored an impressive 28 points to lead Canton in a 60-38 win over Millville. Niemczyk was one of three Canton players in double figures as Cooper Kitchen scored 13 and Caiden Williams added 10.
Millville’s Eli Klinger scored 16.
• Lewisburg’s Siena Brazier was a second-team all-state selection in girls field hockey and teammate Rylee Dyroff earned honorable mention honors in Class A.
• In college wrestling, Rhode Island College defeated Penn College, 23-15. The Wildcats’ Noah Hunt, a Warrior Run graduate, won at 141 by major decision, 17-7. Penn College’s Nicholas Semon (149), Cullen van Rooyen (157) and Jake Kallenborn (184) all earned wins as well.
• After tying a career high with 17 rebounds to lead the Lycoming College men's basketball team to a MAC Freedom win over FDU-Florham, junior Dyson Harward earned his second career MAC Freedom Player of the Week award.
Harward added 16 points while hitting 6-of-12 from the field and 4 of 6 at the line while also adding those 17 rebounds, which included seven on the offensive glass, as the 6-feet, 8-inch center posted his fourth double-double of the season in a 74-55 win.
Averaging 10.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game, Harward is one of three players in the MAC Freedom averaging a double-double along with Arcadia's Jalen Watkins and Stevens' Alec DiPiertrantonio.
• Winning two individual events to lead the Lycoming College men's swimming team to a 107-82 win over Penn State Altoona, sophomore Carter Branigan was awarded the Middle Atlantic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week for a second time this year. Lycoming's Katherine Brown was named the Middle Atlantic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week as well.
Branigan won the 200-yard individual medley by clocking a time of 2:07.52 to beat teammate junior Matthew Michenfelder by three seconds and the closest Lion by seven. His second win of the night came in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.81, more than 5.5 seconds ahead of his closest competition in the race.
Brown claimed the 50-yard freestyle race with a winning time of 25.26, two seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer and went on to win the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.40, more than seven seconds ahead of the competition.
