DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - Holding fourth-seeded Delaware Valley to just 30% shooting, the fifth-seeded Lycoming College men's basketball team posted a 55-41 win in the MAC Freedom Championship quarterfinal at James Work Gymnasium on Wednesday.
The Warriors move on to face top-seeded DeSales, who beat eighth-seeded King's, 104-45, in a conference semifinal on Friday at 8 p.m. at DeSales' Billera Hall.
Senior Matt Ilodigwe led the Warriors (16-10 overall) with 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists and junior DeAundre Manuel added 13 points and five boards. Sophomore Steven Hamilton added 10 points.
Junior Dyson Harward finished with two points, but added 13 rebounds, four steals and three blocks and junior Mo Terry added nine points, seven rebounds and two steals.
The Aggies finished 15 of 50 from the field as they scored the lowest point total against the Warriors since Lycoming beat Messiah, 55-36, on Nov. 29, 2017.
With a six-point lead in the second half, the Warriors used an 11-4 run that took up more than eight minutes and left them with a 40-27 lead with 8:18 left. The Aggies were 1-for-12 from the floor during the run and it left them down by 13 points with the clock rolling under eight minutes to play. They got as close as nine from there, but Lycoming closed the game by shooting 2-of-4 from the field and 10-of-14 at the line in the final five minutes to keep the Aggies at bay.
The Warriors took control of the first half after the teams battled to an 8-7 score through the first eight minutes, as Ilodigwe hit a layup and then a 3-pointer to spark a 9-1 run to make it 17-8 with 5:36 left, as Hamilton closed the run with a pair of layups.
The Aggies cut the game to four, but a free throw from Manuel made it 20-15 at the end of the half. The Warriors held a 12-3 advantage in fastbreak points and 14-2 in second chance points.
Pernell Ghee led the Aggies with 14 points and Godly Marc led the way with six rebounds.
