South Williamsport gave Mount Carmel a battle on the road but a game-winning basket with 3.4 seconds remaining ended its season. The Tornaodes defeated South, 53-51 and earned a spot in Friday’s District 4 Class AAA quarterfinals against defending state champion Loyalsock. Lee Habalar scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds for South, concluding a strong season. Sequan Roberts had a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) and Ben Manning added nine points. The Mounties concluded the season 13-10 and have all five of Tuesday’s starters returning next season.
Bucktail gave No. 2 seed Northumberland Christian a scare in the District 4 Class A quarterfinals, trailing by just three entering the fourth quarter before losing, 66-45. Norry (15-4) closed the game on an 18-0 run as Henry McElroy scored 27 points. Bucktail (9-14) made a nine-win improvement this season and led 19-18 after the first quarter. It trailed by two at halftime and three after three quarters. Freshman Brody Pentz scored 15 points while Braylon Fantaski and Dylan Cross each had 11.
Emily Garvin scored 26 points as the Northumberland Christian girls opened their District 4 Class A title defense with a 61-11 win against Montgomery. Top-seeded Norry (19-3) has captured two straight district championships and reached last year’s state semifinals. Falin Reynolds and Taylor McRae each scored four points for Montgomery (7-16).
