Once Central Mountain swimmer Camryn Bair touched the wall at Hollidaysburg's pool after competing in the 50 free, the freshman looked up at the board to see her time. That's when she put her hand over her mouth in surprise.

Biar has been swimming great all year, but she probably didn't expect to not only win the District 6 Class AAA title in the 50 free and qualify for the PIAA Class AAA meet this week, but to break the school record with a time of 24.30.

The win was a monumental one for Bair in a number of ways.

She became the first female to win a district title for Central Mountain in school history and in addition to breaking the Central Mountain record in the 50 free, she also broke the Hollidaysburg pool record.

"It is a huge accomplishment for her. She has devoted many long hours to this sport and made many sacrifices along the way to make her dream a reality," Central Mountain coach Scott Bair said. "She sleeps and breaths swimming. She has very high expectations for herself and strives to meet those goals."

Bair is Central Mountain's only swimmer to secure a spot at the state meet, which begins preliminary events this morning at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium. Class AAA boys and girls preliminaries are set for today between four sessions.

In the 50 free, Bair is in the fourth heat and is one of a total of 32 swimmers who qualified for the event. Her district-winning time of 24.30 is nearly two seconds behind Downington East's Alexa Fulton's 22.65, who has the fasted seed time in the heat.

Bair is also one of five freshmen who qualified for states in her event, three of which are in the fourth heat. She's swimming with fellow freshmen Sarah Parker (Hatboro-Horsham) and Sylvia Roy (Mount Lebanon).

"She has been very impressive throughout the season breaking several school records along the way. Every time she swims, I am impressed," Scott Bair said. "She dropped time in both individual events in districts. In the 50 free, she swam a 24.30 which was a PR for her."

As to what Scott Bair's expectations are for his daughter Camryn at states?

"For her to reach her goals, enjoy the experience and have fun," he said.
