Local roundup: Lycoming men’s lacrosse team defeats Keuka 13-5
A little March snow couldn’t stop the Lycoming College men’s lacrosse team, as eight Warriors contributed to the win, led by senior Dominick Massaro, who notched four goals and a groundball for his first hat trick of the season in a 13-5 win over Keuka College.
Massaro also became the 19th player in program history to reach 100 career points with his third tally, now has 72 career goals and 29 assists.
Senior Owen Zimmerman added another hat trick, posting three goals, an assist, a groundball, and one caused turnover. Juniors Rory Hines, Joe Corozzo, Zach Anderson, sophomores Max Anderson, Evan Unser and freshman Ryan Farrell all notched a goal apiece.
Juniors Andrew Dede and Brody Balasa led the team with six groundballs each out of the team’s 40. Both had career-highs of five caused turnovers along with first-year Ryan Ledermann.
• Lycoming has two wrestlers set to compete in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for the NCAA Division III Championships on Friday and Saturday. The Warriors will be represented by 197-pound sophomore Gable Crebs, a Montoursville graduate, and heavyweight junior Connor Fulmer, who both qualified for the Division III Championships after placing in the top three at the NCAA Southeast Regional held in Williamsport.
Crebs has compiled a 27-5 record as a sophomore with 15 pins, three technical falls and four major decisions. He was 12-1 in dual meets. Crebs heads into the weekend with a 46-15 career record in two years with the program. Crebs finished seventh at the state championships at 195 pounds as a senior, earning the Sun-Gazette Wrestler of the Year award. He enters the bracket unseeded and will face second-seeded Jack Heidt of Wabash College in the opening round on Friday morning.
Fulmer enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed after winning the NCAA Southeast Regional. Fulmer has notched a 36-1 record through the regional. Fulmer started the season with a 29-match winning streak, tied for the fifth-longest in program history and has won seven straight since a setback in the semifinals of the MAC Championships. Fulmer will face TCNJ’s Thomas Marretta in the opening round.
Bucknell’s Zach Hartman earned the 12th seed in the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships’ 165-pound bracket. The senior captain, a two-time All-American and four-time EIWA placewinner, will square off against 21st-seeded Thomas Bullard of NC State in the opening round, slated for Thursday.
In addition, Hartman checked in at 13th in the final NCAA Coaches’ Panel Rankings and NCAA Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) of the 2021-22 campaign. Notably, he appeared in all 15 of the NCAA Coaches’ Panel Rankings compiled during his time in Lewisburg.
Hartman was joined in the Coaches’ Panel Rankings and RPI by junior captain Darren Miller, who appeared at 31st and 25th respectively in the 141-pound weight class.
• Gage Krall, Ryan Miller, Kirk Stewart and Matthew Muthler of the Lock Haven University men’s track and field team were all named United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region team after their impressive 2021-22 indoor campaigns.
The quartet ran the best distance medley relay time in the region, after they ran 10:02.69 at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational and hit the NCAA DII Provisional Qualifying mark.
Despite an exchange zone miscue that resulted in a dropped baton, the Bald Eagles powered their way past a host of impressive teams including Division I Syracuse. Stewart kicked off the quick time by dropping a 3:04 1200m leg. An exchange zone melee resulted in multiple teams falling including Lock Haven’s own Miller. He was able to recover and split a 52.39 400m before handing off to Muthler who scorched a 1:56.45 800m. Krall brought the Bald Eagles home with the incredible 4:09 1600m leg.
