Muncy delivers strong performance but loses at Shenandoah Valley in state tournament opener

Muncy produced a super performance in its final game this season, giving District 11 champion Shenandoah Valley all it could handle on its home court. Wednesday’s Class AA state tournament first round game was tied entering the fourth quarter, but Shenandoah edged Muncy, 56-52. The Blue Devils advance to play Constitution in Saturday’s second round, while Muncy finished its season 19-7.
Muncy won its most games in a season since 2004 and reached both the district final and state tournament for the first time since 2017. The Indians return a strong core next year as well, including three of their top four scorers. Seniors Gio Persun and Loudon Boring shined in their final games with Persun scoring 13 points and hitting four 3-pointers. Boring ran the offense smooth against a tough defense and dealt six assists.
Ross Eyer produced his 24th double-double this season, finishing with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Eyer grabbed his 700th career rebound in the game and enters his senior year with 929 points and 700 boards. Sophomore Noah Confer scored eight points, pulled down eight rebounds and added five assists while Branson Eyer scored eight points. All three of those players return next season.
Muncy handled a loud, sold out crowd at Shenandoah well and led 14-12 after the first quarter. Shenandoah took a three-point halftime lead, but Muncy rallied and tied it, 44-44 entering the fourth quarter. Owen Kosar scored a game-high 28 points for Shenandoah and connected on eight 3-pointers. Muncy also hit eight 3-pointers and the teams combined for 19.
