Local roundup: Williamsport tennis improves to 7-0 by beating Jersey Shore

Williamsport's Abheet Sarker won in a tiebreaker, 6-3, 4-6 (10-8) at No. 2 singles against Jersey Shore's Eli Bower as the Millionaires cruised past the Bulldogs, 5-0, on Tuesday afternoon in boys tennis. The two played at the Central PA Tennis Center due to weather.

With the victory, the Millionaires are now 7-0.

Kyle Shuler picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles and Shreshth Singh won at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles competition, Williamsport's Evan Beiter and Ben Manetta won, 6-0, 6-1, against Brandon Shrodo and Matt Fravel. The doubles team of Owen Kaar and Sam Radulski earned a straight set win for Williamsport at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-0, over Brennan Smith and Aaron Baker.

• Penn College senior Tucker Phillippe-Johansson was named United East Tennis Player of the Week.

Phillippe-Johansson was 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 in No. 1 doubles last week for Penn College. He picked up straight-set wins against Penn State Berks and Penn State-Abington and teamed with Paul Langbein to earn victories in doubles.

• South Williamsport graduate Haley Neidig earned the Mountain Cat Award at the University of Pitt-Johnstown for being named the school's Female Athlete of the Year.

Neidig started all 18 games for Pitt-Johnstown and scored seven goals with seven assists for 21 points, second on the team.

Her seven goals and seven assists were both second on the team as well, respectively.
