Tyler Wetzel hit a walk-off single which scored Logan Kiess and Hughesville won a 2-1 thriller against Central Columbia, handing the Blue Jays their first loss this season. Jed Webb and Carter Cowburn combined on a brilliant two-hitter with Cowburn earning the win in relief, throwing 2 2/3 hitless innings. Webb was spectacular and showed his toughness after giving up a lead-off home run to open the game, surrendering just one more hit in 4 2/3 innings while striking out five. Seven different Spartans had hits as Hughesville (13-4) vanquished the last remaining undefeated team in District 4. Aiden Barlett led off the bottom of the first with a double and scored the tying run. It stayed that way until Logan Kiess hit a seventh-inning single and scored on Wetzel’s walk-off as Hughesville won its fourth straight game.
Adam Aldenderfer hit a walk-off double, helping Williamsport rally from four down to win a 5-4, eight-inning thriller against Jersey Shore. The Bulldogs scored four first-inning runs, but Joey Signor was brilliant from there and threw a complete game, allowing just one earned run and striking out eight. Aldenderfer hit two doubles and Xavier Taylor was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. The Millionaires (9-4) cut it to 4-3 by the second inning before tying it in the sixth. Brandon Laubach pitched five excellent innigns for Jersey Shore, striking out nine. Karter Peacock and Eddy Danneker each had two hits for Jersey Shore.
Lucas Dietrich had a big offensive showing and Austin Kuhn threw four strong innings as Montgomery avenged a previous defeat and pounded District 4 Class A-leading Benton, 13-1 in five innings. Dietrich was 2 for 2 with a triple and five RBIs as Montgomery scored in every inning. Kuhn had a hit and two RBIs, while not allowing an earned run in his four innings pitching. Colby Springman went 1 for 2 with three runs and Montgomery (7-7) gave its playoff hopes a big boost.
Loyalsock’s baseball team took a 14-4 win over Milton in six innings behind 14 hits throughout the Lancers’ lineup. Gavin Rice was perfect at the plate, going 3 for 3. Cooper Larson hit 2 for 3 with a double and Braydon Miller went 2 for 4 with a triple.
• Bucktail blanked St. John Neumann, 15-0, in five innings. The Bucks scored 10 runs in the top of the third to pull away. Haley Burrows led Bucktail by going 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Lily Francis had two RBIs and a home run and Emma Poorman scored three runs. Gigi Parlante went 1 for 1 for Neumann.
Montoursville lost to Bloomsburg, 13-7. Bloomsburg scored 11 of its runs in the final three innings. Jocelyn Jean led Montoursville by going 3 for 3 with a triple. Hannah Klotz went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Brianna Trueman was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Montgomery softball put on offensive show at Sugar Valley as five players hit home runs in a 31-0, three-inning win. Faith Persing, Brynn McRae, Kaylei Snyder, Taylor McRae and winning pitcher Jenna Waring all went deep as Montgomery (12-2, 11-0 Mid-Penn) stayed undefeated in the Mid-Penn. Persing finished a single shy of the cycle, going 4 for 4 with a home run, triple and two doubles. Brynn McRae was a triple from the cycle, going 3 for 3 and Snyder was 3 for 3. Waring threw a one-hitter in addition to hitting her home run.
Isabelle Engel went 3 for 3 and threw a five-hitter as Jersey Shore defeated Selinsgrove, 4-1. Engel was one of five Bulldogs who produced multi-hit performances to help Jersey Shore (9-5) finish with 12 hits. Grace Lorson, Jocelyn McCracken, Kaitlyn Herman and Emma Pfirman all had two his each. McCracken drove in two runs and Lorson and Pfirman each hit doubles.
Loyalsock senior Hannah Winter celebrated Senior Night under the lights at Short Park in impressive fashion, throwing a one-hit shutout and hitting a home run as Loyalsock blanked Hughesville, 15-0 in four innings. Winter finished 3 for 4 and drove in four runs. The Lancers (11-4) produced 14 hits with Allyia Kennedy, Mallory Rodarmel, Kathryn Schluter, Anna Luxenberger and Marissa Helmrich all collecting two.
Sullivan County’s made a late comeback attempt with six runs in the bottom of the seventhinning, but ultimately fell, 9-8 to Millville. Kayla Fowler went 2 for 3 at the plate with three RBIs. Peyton Pretti and Kaelyn Wettlaufer both made a pair of hits and Lorena Marquardt struck out four batters from the circle.
• In girls track and field, Williamsport fell at home to Selinsgrove in a dual meet, 82-68. Anyae Grissom won the 100 hurdles in 16.20 seconds, just beating out Selinsgrove's Abby Parise, who took second in 16.73. Grissom also took second in the 300 hurdles in 49.15. Teammate Prynn Sidleck took third in 51.35.
Williamsport's Countess Lingard won the long jump with a distance of 16 feet, 8 1/2 inches, winning the event by roughly a foot. Taniyah Martin won the shot put by throwing 33-10, winning by 10 inches against teammate Luseane Ma'afu.
Taniyah Martin threw 106-3 to win the discus and Olivia Holmes won the javelin with a throw of 109-2.
• Williamsport's Cameron Sims won the 100 in 11:00 and the 200 in 22.13, but Williamsport lost in a home dual meet to Selinsgrove, 82-68. The Millionaires' Ethan Holcomb won the 1,600 in 4:44.31 and finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:05.16, just 0.37 seconds behind first-place finisher Jarrett Lee of Selinsgrove.
Jamaire Harden won the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.05, winning by just 0.13 seconds. He also finished second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.62, just 0.18 seconds behind Selinsgrove's Dylan Wagner.
The team of Sims, Emmanuel Pombor, Nelson Macdonald and Damond Greene won the 400 relay with a time of 43.05.
Gavin Reed cleared 10-6 to win the pole vault competition.
