Hughesville continued making strides and put together a dominant offensive showing in an 18-4, five-inning win at Southern Columbia. The Spartans, who have no seniors, pounded out 15 hits and every starter reached base. Sara Stroup led the barrage and was a single from hitting for the cycle, going 3 for 4 with a home run, triple, double, four RBIs and three runs. BrookeLynn Walters, Tori Barto, Maddie Miller and Alaina Hicks all had two hits, with Walters driving in three runs and Miller two. Ella Breneisen earned the win in the circle and Loralie Bennett, McKenna Sones and Addison Detweiler all hit doubles.
Jersey Shore scored seven runs in its final two at-bats, erasing a three-run deficit while avenging a previous defeat and downing Shikellamy, 7-4. The Bulldogs (11-5) pounded out 12 hits and five players had two hits. Grace Lorson sparked the comeback, smashing two doubles, driving in four runs and scoring twice. Carolyn Wacker roped a triple, going 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Rachel Lorson and Jaymison Stellfox each had two hits. Isabelle Engel added two hits and threw a seven-hitter. Engel also threw a seven-hitter the previous day in an 8-2 win at Shamokin, while going 3 for 4. Emma Pfirman added two hits.
Lewisburg started strong, scoring three first-inning runs and completed a regular-season sweep of Loyalsock, beating it 7-3 in a showdown of district title contenders. Lewisburg (11-3) on for the 11th time in 12 games as Rylee Dyroff went 3 for 4 and Sydney Bolinksy hit two doubles. Erin Field was 2 for 3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs. Kim Shannon doubled and earned the win. Marissa Helmrich and Hannah Winter each had two hits for Loyalsock (11-5). Helmrich also collected her 200th career strikeout in her second scholastic season.
Montoursville defeated Warrior Run, 10-4. The Warriors scored six runs between the fifth and sixth innings. Brianna Trueman led Montoursville by going 2 for 4.
Johanna DeVore, Mahlon Yonkin and Jocelyn Jean all hit doubles. Kaelyn Watson led Warrior Run by going 2 for 3 with two doubles.
Montgomery softball took a 12-1, five-inning win over St. John Neumann behind 10 hits. Kaitlyn Raemsch went 3 for 4 with four RBIs. Jenna Waring, Taylor McRae and Faith Persing all made two hits each. Vallyn Ault struck out seven batters for the Red Raiders and Lizzie Weller struck out six for the Golden Knights.
Lorena Marquardt threw seven innings, striking out seven as Sullivan County held off Sayre in a 15-14 contest. Marquardt also led the Griffins offensively, hitting two doubles and collecting two RBIs. Chloe Burke went 3 for 3 with a triple, one RBI and scored four runs.
• Jersey Shore defeated Mifflinburg, 7-6, thanks to Connor Davis, who hit a grand slam in the third inning. Eddie Danneker had a solo home run in the fifth inning as well for the Bulldogs.
Aidan Vogt threw a five-inning, two-hit shutout as St. John Neumann beat Northwest, 10-0. JerVal Weeks-Shuler had a double and Naseer Dymeck went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Naz Smith went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Ross Eyer went 3 for 3 with two triples and a grand slam, and Kadyn Berry and Alex Maiorana (double) each went 3 for 4 as Muncy cruised past Bucktail in a rout, 24-0, in just three innings. The Indians jumped out to an 11-0 lead after the first inning as Stiles Eyer allowed just one hit on the mound.
Branson Eyer and Noah Confer (triple) both went 2 for 3.
• South Williamsport bested Loyalsock in girls nad boys track and field. The Mounties won the girls competition, 99-43, and the boys, 74-70.
On the girls side, Katie Ryder claimed wins in the 100 and 200 for Loyalsock in 13.19 and 27.43, respectively. Her time in the 200 bested her seeded time by 0.07 seconds. South Williamsport’s Charlotte Barckley won the 800 in 2:24.90.
The Mounties’ Olivia Loudenslager won the 3,200 in 14:29.54. South’s Brooklyn Lentz also won the high jump competition by clearing 5 feet, 2 inches.
Katie Hughes of Loyalsock picked up a victory in both the long jump (15-8) and triple jump (32-7).
In boys competition,
Hayden Swinehart won both the 100 (11.59) and 400 (51.02). In the 400, Swinehart just beat Loyalsock’s Andres Quintana by less than a second. Swinehart also teamed with Gabe Harvey, Brock Weaver and Logan Harris to win the 1,600 relay in a time of 3:42.58.
Loyalsock’s Gage Patterson won the high jump by clearing 5-8 and winning thanks to jumps. LJ Lee of Loyalsock won the long jump with a distance of 19-2.
Weaver won the triple jump for the Mounties by clearing 39-6, just beating Loyalsock’s Andrew Reed who took second with a distance of 39-2.
• The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association released its 2022 All-Region teams and the Lock Haven University lacrosse team's standout goalkeeper Lauren Girardi was named to the first team in the Atlantic Region.
Recently, Girardi also earned PSAC first-team goalkeeper honors in the Western Division.
Between the posts, Girardi goes down in the LHU Lacrosse record books as the all-time leader in career saves with 607, and she owns the single season saves mark with 209 in 2019. In 2022, Girardi made 159 saves and posted a .492 save percentages, both of which were fourth-best in conference and top-10 in all of Division II.
• Sophomore Harrison Gold made an immediate impact on the Bucknell men's tennis team in his first season in Lewisburg, and on Thursday he was rewarded with first-team All-Patriot League honors.
Gold, a transfer from UNC Wilmington, was one of six players named to the First Team after jumping right into the No. 1 singles and doubles spots in the Bison lineup. He posted a 5-1 singles record against Patriot League opponents this spring (8-11 overall), including a key three-set win over Jonah Dickson of Boston University in Bucknell's 4-3 victory in the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals. Gold's only loss to a conference foe came at the hands of Navy senior Derrick Thompson, who was named Patriot League Player of the Year.
• The Lock Haven University men's outdoor track and field team competed at the 2022 PSAC Championships. It marked the first of three days of championship competition at host Millersville.
Nathan Govern placed 14th in today's hammer throw event.
Ethan Rogers, Caden Dufrene (a Warrior Run graduate) and Vincent Fennell all represented Lock Haven in the 10,000-meter run. Rogers was the top LHU finisher as he placed 17th with a time of 33:24.28. Dufrene ran 34:06.55 (22nd) and Fennell ran 34:24.49 (24th).
In women’s competition, thrower Megan Manglaviti led the way for Lock Haven. Manglaviti finished fifth in the hammer throw with a very strong mark of 160-06. Her best throw of the competition came on her sixth and final throw of the event as she improved on each of her six attempts. The toss of 160-06 in the finals helped her score four team points for Lock Haven.
Distance runner Elaina Klinger turned in a strong effort as well. In the 10,000-meter run, Klinger finished ninth with a time of 40:27.73.
