Hughesville’s Draper to join Lycoming’s cross country team

Lycoming College cross country coach Katie Sick announced an incoming class of three men’s runners that are looking to make an immediate impact after the team was hit by the graduation of four of its top seven runners on Wednesday.

The men’s cross country team placed two runners in the top 200 at the NCAA Mideast Regionals during the 2021 season.

The team opens its season on Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Misericordia Invitational at 6:45 p.m.

The incoming class features Hughesville’s Kenneth Draper, Sussex Central of Delaware’s Blake Huffman and Sean McKenna of Campbell-Savona, New York.

Draper was a four-year letterwinner in cross country and track and field at Hughesville and was an integral part of Hughesville’s state championship-winning team as a senior. At the PIAA tournament, he placed 64th with a time of 18:21.30 and finished seventh at districts his senior (17:55.00) and junior (17:53.00) years, and 11th as a sophomore (17:59.00). He took 17th as a freshman (18:30.00).

Huffman placed 121st at the Delaware state cross country championships as a senior.

McKenna placed 24th at the Mid-State Athletic Conference Championships in 21:40.06 and had another top-25 finish during the season. He was a five-year letterwinner in cross country and a four-year letterwinner in track and field at Campbell-Savona. He took 59th at the sectional cross country championships.
