Clinton’s state title hopes were dashed Monday night as North Pocono won two games against the District 12 and Section 3 champions, 8-4 and 9-1. Clinton finishes its remarkable season as Pennsylvania runners-up.
The winner-take-all rematch final was the third straight time Clinton played North Pocono. After beating North Pocono in the winners’ bracket final, 2-0, North Pocono battled back from the losers’ bracket.
North Pocono beat Devon Stratford/Berwyn-Paoli Little League in a tight game, 3-2, to advance to Monday’s state championship game. North Pocono won the first game Monday evening, 8-4, to force a rematch immediately afterwards.
In the winner-take-all championship game — the third meeting between the two squads — North Pocono limited an extremely potent Clinton team to just one run.
The run was one of the best in Clinton history, reaching the state championship and coming one victory shy of reaching the Mid-Atlantic Regional.
“From the beginning our goal was to win a state title and our girls thought that was something we could accomplish. They’re just an unbelievable group of girls that work really hard, believe in each other and have each other’s back,” Clinton coach Shawn Weaver said after Saturday’s winners’ bracket final win. “It’s important to have goals and know what you’re working for. When you accomplish them, it gives you that much more motivation to work.”
