The World of Outlaws did the Summer Nationals tour last week and the tally was Posse 1, Outlaws 1, NASCAR champion 1.
It started on Wednesday at Port Royal where Kyle Larson continued his dominant ways against the World of Outlaws sprint car series.
Larson didn't compete with the series at the Juniata County oval in 2021, but swept the 2020 October Nittany Classic. This win was worth $20,000 and came over Danny Dietrich and Anthony Macri.
Larson and the night's $300 fast time award winner (Donny Schatz) led the field of 26 sprint cars to the green flag and it was all Larson from the drop of the green flag as the defending NASCAR Cup Series champion led lap one. Young Money claimed victory for the 28th time in his career against the World of Outlaws, which moved him into a tie for 23rd all-time on the win list with the series.
It was also his eighth career victory at the Port Royal Speedway with seven of them coming in 410 sprint car competition.
Behind Dietrich and Macri, Brent Marks and Haudenschild rounded out the top five. Brock Zearfoss earned the night's $500 hard charger award after starting 17th on the grid. Tony Jackson scored the win in a drag race to the finish line over Steve Wilbur in an epic battle during the Path Valley wingless sportsman feature event. Sam Leonard scored the final podium position after contending early and slipping to third.
Then it was off to Williams Grove where Lance Dewease passed Brent Marks with four laps to go to win the opening night of the Summer Nationals Friday night. It was Dewease's 106th career Grove victory was worth $10,000 against the World of Outlaws.
Brad Sweet had previously won the Knoxville Nationals and the King's Royal, but had never won at Williams Grove Speedway. The World of Outlaws point leader and three-time champion changed that stat on Saturday night using a late-race pass to win the $20,000 Summer Nationals, and his first Williams Grove win. It also ended a 31-race winless streak for Sweet, who hadn't won with the series since March.
"You know it's a weird year when we're at the Summer Nationals and I get my second win and it's at Williams Grove," Sweet said. "We're gone through a lot of adversity this year. It's been a tough year. We've been working on this Williams Grove set-up for a long time. It's a pretty special night for us. It's such a relief to win here. It was a great race and a racy race track."
Williams Grove Speedway will present another Yellow Breeches 500 race for 410 sprint cars coming up this Friday night at 7:30 pm. The 410 sprints will race in a 25-lap, $5,000 to win main event paying $500 just to start. Timed hot laps will be used to set the heat starting grids as has been the case in all previous Yellow Breeches races this season to date.
On Sunday night Danny Dietrich started on the pole and drove away to an eight-second victory in the prestigious Kevin Gobrecht Classic. The win netted the Gary Kauffman-owned No. 48 a nice $5,300 payday.
"Really, the only time we've been slow is Speedweek," Dietrich said. "We just weren't good enough, but it's hard to believe it only ended 20 days ago. It feels like it was two months
"Eldora didn't go our way. We wrote that week off, and it's behind us. We are going to go into the Month of Money in September with a little bit of a different attitude," Dietrich continued. "We are going to take two short getaways to recoup and take Knoxville off. It's always a beater and seems to beat everybody up."
Dietrich put the race away early when he took off from his pole starting spot. Freddie Rahmer also made a quick move to the front, blasting by Chase Dietz to take the runner-up spot by the completion of Lap 1.
"We are going to try and get fresh, get our body fresh, get our motors fresh, get our cars built, and try and get after it," Dietrich said. "We hit double-digit wins, and 10 wins is a good season no matter how you look at it."
In the 358 modified main event, Louden Reimert started on the pole and turned it into a wire-to-wire victory in the 30-lap main event.
At Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday night Blane Heimbach held off Ryan Smith of Kunkletown for the $5,000 victory in Saturday night's 25-lap summer championship race at the Speedway.
For Heimbach, who is one of the track's all-time career leading 358-360 sprint car winners, it was his second in the 410 sprint car ranks at the wheel of the No. 12.
Bryan Bernheisel of Lebanon came out the winner of a thrilling 25-lap super late model championship race over Rick Eckert of York and Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills. Bernheisel also collected $5,000 for this second win of the season and the 11th of his career at the track. He became the first repeat winner in the division while driving the No. 119.
Jake Jones of Hunlock Creek drove to his second career win in the annual Roadrunner 20 race. The win was also his fifth of the year at the track.
Selinsgrove Speedway's next race will be at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, featuring the Renegades of Dirt super late model series in a $4,000-to-win race plus the USAC East Coast Wingless 360 sprint cars, and a roadrunner championship race.
At Clinton County, Jersey Shore's Jeremy Ohl claimed a thrilling victory on Friday in the limited late model division. It was his second win of the season. Chase Walker won the 270 micro Sprints, AJ Stroup won the pro stocks and Hunter Flook won the four cylinder feature event.
