It was another big weekend for local auto racing. It got started on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway when they honored the legendary car owner Joe Harz with a tribute race. Harz was on hand to watch one of his former drivers, Lance Dewease start on the pole and dominate the feature to claim the $6,000 feature.
The victory was the fourth for Dewease and his Don Kreitz-owned team at the track this season and it was his 107th at the oval overall in his career.
The Match Race for 358 sprints went to Derek Locke for his third oval win of the season. Polesitter Matt Findley led just the first circuit of the 25-lap Match Race for 358 sprints before Derek Locke took over for what would be the $2,021 win.
On Saturday night the sprint cars were overshadowed by the ULMS Racing Series Butch Renninger memorial race. Gregg Satterlee capitalized on a front-row starting spot to pick up his record fourth.
The win was Satterlee's second of the season at the Speedway and was worth a race-record $7,333 in memory of the legendary Renninger.
Spike Moore shocked the local limited late model field of cars to pick up his first career Port Royal Speedway victory over Dillan Stake, Andrew Yoder, Trent Brenneman and Devin Hart.
The limited late model Butch Renninger memorial victory was worth $4,333, which was the second highest paying winner's share for the event in the history of the event.
Devon Borden scored his second career 410 sprint car victory in dominating fashion over Danny Dietrich, Justin Whittall, Lance Dewease and Brian Brown.
The win was worth an increased $5,000 as part of the Juniata County Fair opener and the feature event went non-stop. Port returns this week with three nights of racing featuring the Tezos All Stars at Port Royal Speedway for the Tuscarora 50 on Sept. 8-10.
At Lincoln Speedway on Saturday Freddie Rahmer clinched his third consecutive track championship. Rahmer started the night setting quick time over the 22-car field with a lap of 13.328 seconds.
Rahmer made the re-draw and started on the pole of the 35-lap feature.
"I wish I wouldn't have started on the pole I'd rather see the pace of the race and be able to move around more," he said.
Troy Wagaman challenged Rahmer for the lead and after the two were wheel to wheel at the line on lap 19, Wagaman used the bottom line to get by Rahmer in turn 1.
"Troy showed his nose in lapped traffic there and I figured I had to change it up," Rahmer said.
The red flag came out before the lap was completed with Rahmer maintaining the top spot. Rahmer's win was his sixth of the season at Lincoln.
"We got fortunate enough to win that one there. I don't think we were real good. I didn't know where to be on the racetrack," Rahmer said.
The race paid $7,000 to win and Rahmer earned extra bonus money for leading laps 6, 9 and 12 thanks to the Hawkins family.
"Really appreciate everything they did and looking forward to it again next year," Rahmer said.
Wyatt Hinkle and Jordan Strickler shared the front row of the 358 Sprint 20-lap feature.
Hinkle scored his fourth career Lincoln Speedway victory by getting to the checkered flag .965 seconds.
In a thrilling Legends finish, Travis Perry took the lead coming out of turn 4 on the last lap, beating McClelland to the checkered flag by only .024 seconds. Wurtzer crossed the line third and Diehl was fourth. Chris Transeau finished fifth.
Next Saturday, Lincoln Speedway is back in action with Bobby Rudisill Memorial featuring the super late models, wingless super sportsman, extreme stocks and limited stocks. Racing starts at 7:30 p.m. with pit gates open at 5 p.m. and grandstands open at 5:30 p.m.
The weekend racing wrapped up when Brian Brown of Grain Valley, Mo., made his annual trek to central Pennsylvania for the big fall races and quickly cracked the winner's circle in Sunday night's 25-lap main event for the 410 sprint cars at Selinsgrove Speedway.
The $5,500 win was Brown's second career at the track and makes him an automatic qualifier for the Sept. 24 $26,000-to-win Jim Nace Memorial National Open, a race he won in his first-ever start at the speedway in 2017.
Rick Eckert of York won his second race of the season at the track in the 25-lap Ron Keister Memorial for super-late models. He earned $11,052 for his second win in the tribute race and 10th overall career win at Selinsgrove.
Jake Jones of Hunlock Creek edged out Keith Bissinger of Orangeville by inches for his seventh win of the season in the thrilling 12-lap roadrunner race.
Selinsgrove Speedway returns to racing action at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, with the PA Game Commission "Race To Hunting Season" championship race for the PASS 305 sprint cars plus super late models, limited late models, and roadrunners.
