Hughesville continued surging and the defense dominated as it blanked Midd-West, 28-0 Saturday afternoon on the road. The Spartans (3-2) have won two straight and have allowed just six points in their three victories. They also reached three wins in a season for the first time since 2016 and continue turning defense into offense.
Hughesville allowed just 123 yards against Midd-West, Aiden Barlett returned an interception 64 yards for a touchdown and forced five turnovers. The defense has scored four touchdowns the past two weeks and Garet Sharer’s 11-yard fumble return in the third quarter made it 21-0. The offensive line surged throughout the second half and Tyler Wetzel ripped off a 54-yard touchdown run to open the second-half scoring.
Mason Hoppes gave Hughesville a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when he scored on a 24-yard run. Keegan Smith was perfect on extra points and the Spartan defense has now scored as many touchdowns this season (5) as it has allowed.
