Lewisburg and Midd-West didn’t disappoint in a battle of rivals in boys soccer as the Green Dragons defeated the Mustangs, 3-2. Lewisburg held a 3-1 lead at halftime before Kyle Ferster scored with 25:33 to play in the second half.
But that would be the closest Midd-West came in the second half to tying the game as Lewisburg prevented an equalizer.
Alfred Romano scored twice for Lewisburg and Cohen Hoover added a goal. Darrien Svilokos and Viktor Permyashkin each had an assist.
Wellsboro defeated Williamson, 2-0. Caden Smith and Jack Poirier each scored goals for the Green Hornets and Alex Citrino added an assist.
Aiden Gehman had 10 saves to preserve the shutout.
“Williamson is a quality team. Aiden (Gehman) and our defense came up with some game-changing stops and our attackers finished two of our opportunities,” Wellsboro coach Todd Fitch said. “That combination was the difference in this match.”
• Hughesville defeated Troy, 5-2, at home in girls soccer. Aly Taggart scored twice and Alli Anstadt had a goal and assist for the Spartans.
Jadyn McGinley (one assist) and Makenzi Leitenberger both scored and Hailey Sherwood added an assist.
In goal, Bailey Gavitt recorded five saves.
• Oswayo Valley defeated Galeton in girls volleyball, 3-0 (25-21 25-20, 25-16). Alli Macensky had eight kills and tow blocks, Johanna Dickerson had 10 assists, Eve Cole had three kills and two digs, Ava Succowich had three assists and three digs and Macey Crowell had six assists, two digs and two aces.
• Sarah Buck defeated Marissa Griess at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0 as Hughesville beat North Penn-Liberty, 5-0, in girls tennis. Kylie Kilgore won at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Bucktail continued rolling with a 4-1 win over Muncy to improve to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-Penn. Strong play at singles competition helped Bucktail win as Kayla Probert, Alexis Lowery and Bella English won at Nos. 1-3, respectively.
Probert won 6-0, 6-2, Lowery picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win and English won 6-4, 6-3.
• Freshman Cameron Upcraft and senior Elizabeth Kelson each had five blocks to lead the Lycoming College volleyball team, which fell 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-19) to Misericordia University.
Upcraft led the Warriors (4-1 overall, 0-1 MAC Freedom) with 7.5 points, using two solo blocks, three assisted to go with two kills and two aces. Sophomore Brynne Bisel posted five kills and eight digs and sophomore Jessica Ahart added four kills. Sophomore Marykatelin Button led the team with seven assists and sophomore Ali Koval (North Penn-Mansfield graduate) added 15 digs.
• Freshman Hannah Wood gave the Lycoming College women's soccer team a quick lead, with a goal just under two minutes into the game and fellow rookie Camryn Smeigh scored in the second half to give Lycoming a 2-0 win over Elmira College.
The win was the 31st in coach Kenny Fern’s career, as he surpassed the mark of 30 wins set by both Jack Shafer (1996-99) and Scott Kennell (2002-05).
Wood's first career goal as a Warrior found its way past the Eagles' goalkeeper at the 1:49 mark of the first half after she headed the ball from the left corner of the goal off a corner kick from sophomore Haley Schafer.
Keuka College netted a first half goal en route to a 1-0 victory over Penn College. Keuka netted a score early in the 14th minute, while Penn College put one shot on frame in the first half but Sara Darlington’s attempt in the 26th was stopped.
The Wildcats had two looks on-goal in the second half when Cassie Johnson fired a shot in the 61st minute and Riley Reed had a look in the 78th, but both were turned away.
Lock Haven battled to a hard-fought 0-0 tie with visiting Mansfield in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division action.
Lock Haven entered the match ranked No. 7 in Division II's Atlantic Region by the United Soccer Coaches. This marks the third straight game where Lock Haven hasn't surrendered a goal, and overall, the Bald Eagles haven't given up a goal since the first half of the season opener.
At halftime, the two teams were deadlocked at 0-0. Visiting Mansfield held a 3-1 advantage in first-half shots. Two of those three shots were on target and forced saves from Lock Haven's Megan Miller, the reigning PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week.
• Junior Kenny Clapp scored the tying goal in the second half for the Lycoming College men's soccer team in a 1-1 draw against Susquehanna University in the Battle of the Boot.
Clapp's goal in the 66th minute of the game was set up by sophomore Owen Magee, who dribbled down the far side of the field to Clapp in the left corner of the box. Clapp's resulting shot hit the back right corner of the goal.
Alfred State knocked off Penn College 2-0 in a nonconference match. The Wildcats fell to 0-3, while the Pioneers improved to 2-1.Alfred State got on the board early in the game with a tally in the 21st minute and added late goal on a penalty kick in the 88th minute. Penn College missed an opportunity in the first half when Cooper Smith’s attempt in the 17th minute was saved.
Lock Haven racked up another five goals in a 5-1 win over Goldey-Beacom College.
In the 28th minute, Samuel Hershey got back on the scoreboard after his hat-trick on Saturday. Hershey picked up an assist from Davis Dull and put away a tidy finish to hand LHU the 1-0 lead.
