Goals in the first seven minutes by senior Bella Green (South Williamsport graduate) and sophomore Sydney Sellers got the Lycoming College women's soccer team rolling in a 4-0 shutout of Mount Aloysius College in non-conference action on Labor Day.
The win is the 30th of coach Kenny Fern’s career, tying him with Scott Kennell (2002-05) and Rob Eaton (1996-99) for the most wins in program history.
Green opened the scoring just over three minutes into play on an unassisted one on one shot from just inside the box. Green scored again in the second half on a pass from first-year Aubrey Williamson inside the box, delivering a one-touch shot.
Seller's goal came just three minutes after Green's first goal, with the assist awarded to senior Bridget Maaloum, as her pass fell right inside the box for Sellers. Maaloum found the back of the net herself, settling the final goal of the game for the Warriors (2-0 overall) in the second half on a cross pass through the Mounties’ defense from Williamson.
Green has four goals through two games and Williamson ended the night with two assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper Abbey Gerasimoff and freshman goalkeeper Riley Block split duties, playing over 40 minutes each with a save a piece. Mounties' goalkeeper Courtney Vought made 13 saves on 22 shots by the Warriors.
Megan Miller earned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division Defensive Athlete of the Week honors after her performance in Lock Haven's 1-0 win over Millersville.
Miller was a brick wall in goal for the Bald Eagles. The freshman made five critical saves in the close 1-0 thriller against the 2021 PSAC runners-up Millersville on Wednesday. The win kept LHU undefeated at 3-0 on the season.
• Senior middle hitter Elizabeth Kelson and sophomore libero Ali Koval (North Penn-Mansfield graduate) swept the MAC Freedom Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards, respectively, after helping the Lycoming College volleyball team to four straight wins to open the season.
Koval earned her third career MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week award. The 5-2 libero averaged 5.43 digs per set and had at least 20 digs in three of the team's four matches during the week. She posted 24 digs against Penn College, added two aces and six digs against Clarks Summit, then posted two kills, two aces and 21 digs against Hilbert. She finished the week with a season-best 25 digs and two more aces in a four-set win against La Roche.
• Sophomore Owen Magee had a breakthrough week for the Lycoming College men's soccer team, scoring twice in key situations to help him earn his first career MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week award.
After injuries kept him off the field in 2021, Magee struck with his first career goal in the second half to lead the team to a 2-0 win over Mount St. Mary, predicted to finish third in the Skyline Conference poll. Magee is Lycoming's first MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week award since junior Dylan Sloan earned the award on Sept. 13, 2021.
