Kegler’s Korner: Harris and Gridley earn bowler of the week nods

Did you know?
Our local area has been blessed with 14 bowlers who have held national records over the years. The earliest one was junior bowler Ricky Strothers, who set a new American Junior Bowling Congress series record when he bowled a 744 on Nov. 16, 1957 at the local YMCA Lanes.
Of course, there are national records that most bowlers would probably not like to have. The USBC record for the lowest score in a game with 11 strikes is 240 set in 1980 by a New York bowler who got zero pins in the fourth frame, due to an unspecified combination of fouls and/or gutter balls. Perhaps unfortunately for this record setter, this is a record that can never be broken but only tied, and that’s exactly what happened in 2003 in Reading, Pa., when another bowler failed to knock down any pins in the third frame after starting with two strikes and then finishing with the last nine.
Hope to see you on the lanes.
