In last week's action, Amanda Heck rolled a 683 series in the Inter-community League to edge out Brenda Brownawell's 682 in the Susquehanna Health League for the top female series of the week. After Dave Miller tossed a 791 series in the Inter-community League, DeWayne Harris tied Miller for the top male series of the week, with his own 791 series in the Saturday Night Moonlighters League.
Dave Rhoades threw a 300 game in that same league to beat out Doug Lundy's 298 in the Monday Night Classic for the top male game of the week. In the Three-Man Major League, Alexis Runk shot a 267 to nail down top female game of the week honors.

SPEAKING OF TURKEY
Most everyone knows that three strikes in a row is called a turkey, but did you ever wonder where that term came from? Like other bowling terms, turkey apparently originated long before the sport as we know it became popular. It seems that back In the 18th century, bowling organizers would give away a turkey to anyone who could roll three consecutive strikes.
Of course, you have to realize that back then, pins were uneven, bowling balls were not properly balanced, and bowling alley surfaces were imperfect, to say the least. Scores were therefore much, much lower than they became after 1900, and getting one's ball to knock down all ten pins three times in a row was quite a feat. Nice that these early bowling organizers promoted the game of bowling so that it developed into the sport that it is today. Another thing for which we can all be thankful.
