Lycoming falls to 21st-ranked Messiah in women’s basketball on Friday

Junior Emily Lockard led the Lycoming College women's basketball team with 12 points in a 70-42 non-conference loss at 21st-ranked Messiah University on the first day of the Messiah University Tip-off on Friday night.

Lockard, with her fourth double-digit point game of the season, hit five shots from the field and both free throws she attempted. Sophomore Ashley Yoh finished in double-digits with 10 points, two steals and a team-leading eight rebounds. Sophomore Meghan Dufner added nine points, two assists and six rebounds for nine points and sophomore Mya Wetzel led the team with three assists.

The Warriors (1-3 overall) kept pace with the nationally-ranked Falcons (2-1 overall) through the first quarter of play with seven lead changes coming in those first 10 minutes. Dufner led the team through the quarter with five points, a three-point shot and another layup on the next possession. Back-to-back layups by Yoh ended the first with the Warriors trailing by a point at 14-13.

The Falcons scored the first nine points of the second quarter, but the Warriors came back, as Yoh hit a pair of free throws to make it 31-24 at the break. Lycoming closed within five twice in the third quarter, but the Falcons used a run of 17 straight points in the final minutes of the period to take control.

Morgan Adams and Amber High led the Falcons with 17 points each. Adams and Chloe Milanesi each had seven rebounds, as Milanesi also added a team-best four assists, six steals and two blocks.
