Golf tip of the week: A proper shaft angle at the address position is critical

Start with the club pointing more to the center of your body and experiment with different positions. Until the desired ball flight is accomplished.

The shaft angle at the address should be tailored to the individual hitting the ball. For example, if you scoop the ball, adding loft at impact, the grip or butt end of the club should point more to the left of the belt buckle (to the right of the belt buckle for the left-hand golfer). This creates a little lag and prevents the club from getting to the ball too soon.

If a golfer has a late release or lag in his/her swing, then the grip end or butt of the club should point more to the belt buckle.

If the grip points to the center or toward the belt buckle, shots will be more explosive and add distance. You can experiment with different positions to see which is best for your particular swing characteristics.

Don’t forget to enjoy this great game called golf.
