Loyalsock continued powering through a tough early season schedule, starting strong and holding off 6A State College two in its home opener, 54-52. Freshman Alaina Dadzie scored a game-high 20 points over the final three quarters as the two-time defending District 4 Class AAA champions led almost the entire way. Dadzie produced her first high school double-double, adding 12 rebounds. Natayah Abdul-Hakim and Julie Ellis each scored nine points with Abdul-Hakim setting an early tone with seven in the first quarter. Izzy Dadzie scored seven points, dealt seven assists and added four rebounds. Ellis grabbed seven rebounds and Katie Ryder dealt five assists as Loyalsock (2-0) built an eight-point lead after three quarters.
Falin Reynolds had a big night, scoring a career-high 20 points, while adding six steals as Montgomery won its Mid-Penn opener, 42-7 against CMVT. Freshman Madisyn Miller topped 10 rebounds for a second straight game, finishing with 12. Rubi Solano scored eight points and Kayanna Walters made four steals.
Williamsport played strong defense, but Holy Redeemer defeated it, 40-31 in its opener. Redeemer went to the line 22 times on its home court and Williamsport just once. Taniyah Martin scored 9 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Millionaires while Payton Baney grabbed eight rebounds, blocked four shots and made two steals.
Jaclyn Nelson scored a career-high 19 points and dealt seven assists, helping North Penn-Liberty defeat Williamson, 57-37. Freshman Haley Litzelman also was in a giving mood, dishing seven assists and scoring 14 points. Elizabeth Ritchie just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds, while Sidney Landis scored seven points, pulled down eight boards and added three blocks. Taylor Rae Jones scored 20 points for Williamson.
In boys’ basketball, Saafir Stewart-Williams and Demaj Stewart-Williams formed a strong tandem, helping Montgomery defeat CMVT, 36-23. Saafir scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds, while Demaj produced six points and eight rebounds. Hayden Wilt added 10 points, four rebounds and three steals as Montgomery rode strong defense to the win. The Red Raiders allowed seven or fewer points in all four quarters.
Alex Davis scored a career-high 19 points and drained five 3-pointers as North Penn-Mansfield defeated rival North Penn-Liberty, 60-27. Davis and Karson Dominick (14 points) combined for 20 first-quarter points as the Tigers (2-1) built a 22-7 lead. Sam Lawrence also scored in double figures, producing 13 points, while Cooper Shaw added eight. Derek Litzelman had 10 points, three assists and three steals for North Penn-Liberty (0-1).
Braylon Fantaski scored 25 points and Brody Pentz 19 as Bucktail started strong and defeated Northern Potter, 57-44. Fantaski scored 10 first quarter points, helping Bucktail take a 17-4 lead it never relinquished.
