Sydney Bolinsky hit a baseline jumper with 10 seconds remaining in overtime to give Lewisburg an exciting 39-38 win against South Williamsport in girls basketball on Tuesday night.
Aleigha Rieppel led the Mounties with an 18-point performance and Lacey Kriebel scored 10. Lewisburg was led by Keeley Baker’s 15 points. A trio of players scored eight for the Green Dragons in Bolinsky, Maddy Moyers and Sophie Kilbride.
Kilbride had a team-high six assists. Baker had a double-double as she added an impressive 18 rebounds, two steals and two assists. Moyers had five boards, two assists and a steal and Maddie Still swiped away five steals.
Payton Baney was a force in the fourth quarter, scoring 12 of her career-high 16 points and helping Williamsport rally for a 33-27 win at Shikellamy. Baney added 10 rebounds and helped the Millionaires erase a four-point deficit. Baney scored 14 of her game-high 16 points in the second half.
Ally Chilson added eight rebounds and Sydney Crews shined off the bench as Williamsport played stifling defense. The Millionaires (3-3) allowed just seven second-half points and three field goals after trailing 20-14 at halftime.
Alaina Marchioni scored a career-high 20 points and combined with Shyanne Klemick to drain eight 3-pointers as Montoursville won a 51-47 thriller at St. John Neumann. Marchioni made five treys and Klemick three. Klemick made three of those during the third quarter and Montoursville (4-3) rallied from behind in the fourth quarter to win its second straight. Jill Stone added nine points off the bench for the Warriors. Gigi Parlante had a big night for Neumann with 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Sheiana Tutler added eight rebounds with 12 rebounds and Lizzie Weller had 8 points and 10 boards. Lily Reid added six rebounds for the Knights.
• Williamsport scored 39 straight points in the middle quarters, turning a five-point deficit into a 34-point lead as it routed Paul International, 61-29 in the semifinals of its annual Christmas Tournament in boys basketball.
The Millionaires (6-1) outscored Paul, 41-7 in those second and third quarters while winning their sixth straight game. Williamsport will play a strong Teaneck, New Jersey team in Wednesday’s championship. George Whaley scored 16 points for Williamsport and Caleb Fausnaught 12. Jakiha Kline added nine.
Eli Weikle scored 17 points and Noah Confer chipped in 13 as Muncy defeated Galeton, 71-23, at the Liberty Tournament.
Ross Eyer scored 11. Muncy held just a 14-11 lead after the first quarter but pulled away thanks to outscoring Galeton 36-3 in the second and third quarters.
Canton defeated Meadowbrook Christian, 40-28. Weston Bellows scored 14 points for Canton in the win and Ben Fitch added nine points.
Montoursville defeated North Penn-Liberty, 58-40. Quinn Ranck scored a team-high 17 points for the Warriors and Chase Snyder added 13. Montoursville also had 11 points from Shea Ulmer. Liberty received 20 points from Derek Litzelman — 14 of which came in the first half — and Daniel Sherant added 12.
• Penn State men's basketball senior guard Jalen Pickett has been named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Pickett was one assist shy of his second triple-double of the season in Penn State's Thursday win over Quinnipiac, finishing with 21 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists with zero turnovers against the Bobcats. It marked his fourth double-double of the season and fifth 20-point game of the year.
