Four pins and three more bonus-point wins helped the Lycoming College wrestling team pick up a 47-3 win over Penn College to wrap up their first day at the Whitehill National Duals on Friday at Lamade Gym. The Warriors opened wrestling with a 24-18 setback to Wilkes before falling to 13th-ranked Ohio Northern, 30-13, in the second round.
Sophomore 125-pounder Kaden Majcher (a Warrior Run graduate), junior 197-pounder Gable Crebs (a Montoursville graduate) and senior heavyweight Connor Fulmer all finished the first day of the tournament undefeated with unblemished 3-0 records. The Warriors (5-5 overall) will face Wesleyan (3-2 overall) at 9 a.m. in the opening round of the second day in the 9-12 bracket and will face Williams (3-4 overall) at 12 p.m., to wrap up the tournament.
Majcher came from behind to open the dual with the Wildcats (2-6 overall), posting a 9-6 win thanks to a takedown in the last 30 seconds. First-years Jaciah Whitcomb and Kobin Karper each added pins at 133 and 149 to add to the lead before sophomore Logan Bartlett, a Lewisburg graduate, wrestling up a weight class at 157, notched a 13-6 win to make it 18-3. Senior 165-pounder Preston Rogersprovided a third-period fall and Fulmer posted one in 44 seconds to round out the pins for the Warriors, while Crebs added a 15-0 technical fall. The Warriors also benefitted from two forfeits.
The Warriors won three bouts against the 13th-ranked Polar Bears (15-0 overall), picking up two bonus-point wins in the 30-13 setback.
Majcher posted a pin at 125, Crebs added a decision over regionally-ranked Ben DePrest at 197 and Fulmer added a major decision at heavyweight.
Against Springfield (4-0 overall), the Warriors posted 15 points in the last three bouts, but six straight wins from Springfield helped it to a 24-18 opening-round win.
After Majcher opened the meet with a 10-6 win at 125 pounds, Springfield used two falls and four decisions, all by one point, to lead 24-3. Freshman James Ellis pinned Casey Allen in 2:09 at 184, Crebs cruised with a 15-3 major decision at 197 and Fulmer added a 17-0 technical fall at heavyweight to close the meet.
