An accomplished group of seven will join the Lycoming College volleyball team in 2023, 23rd-year coach Tim McMahon announced on Friday. The group includes three setters, a defensive specialist, an outside hitter, a middle hitter and a right-side hitter.
The Warriors finished the season 11-13 overall, going 2-6 in the MAC Freedom under McMahon.
The incoming class consists of Jillian Stebbins (Portville, New York), Ima Mercado (Juniata), Haley Balgavy (Kettle Run, Virginia), Lindsay Heimlich (Mercy, New York), Caroline Colucci (Roxbury, New Jersey), Alli Macensky (Galeton) and Trinity Powell (Charlotte-Mecklenburg Virtual, North Carolina).
Macensky was an outstanding middle hitter for Galeton over her four years as a starter. She earned 2021 Sun-Gazette Offensive Player of the Year honors after notching 249 kills with 49 blocks and 67 aces. She was a three-time all-conference selection and two-time all-district. As a senior, she guided Galeton to the District 4 title, set the school record with 839 career kills and played club volleyball with Nightmare Volleyball Club.
Stebbins started for three years in Portville, New York, and helped the team win consecutive state titles in 2021 and 2022 and finished as state runner-up in 2019. She was a second-team all-state selection and first-team all-conference in 2022. For her career, she had 1,162 assists and in 2022 had 247 aces and 226 digs.
Mercado was a four-year starter at Juniata and played with York YMCA Club Team. She earned all-conference honors in 2021. Balgavy was a two-year starter in Virginia and was a two-time all-district setter, earning second-team honors in 2022 and honorable mention honors in 2021. She was the team MVP in 2022.
Heimlich was a four-year starter in New York and earned all-selection honors in 2022. She helped the team wtih a sectional title in 2022. Colucci was a two-year starter in New Jersey and helped Roxbury win the county title and appear in regionals in 2021. She was an honorable-mention all-conference selection in 2022.
Powell played club volleyball with Queen City Volleyball Academy and Precision Athletics Volleyball Club in North Carolina.
