Hudson O’Neal earns win at Port Royal Speedway

Last weekend the late models made an appearance at Port Royal Speedway and Hudson O’Neal battled his way to the lead with seven laps to go and pulled away in the final laps to win the dirt series-sanctioned Rumble by the River on Saturday Night.

O’Neal earned $50,000 from the $150,000 feature purse for the Rocket1 Team. O’Neal’s winning margin of 1.808 seconds was the largest lead anyone had held during the 50-lap event. Mike Marlar came home in second as he passed Jonathan Davenport with two laps to go. Davenport was third with Matt Cosner and Brandon Overton completing the top five.

This weekend at Port is the start of the Juniata County Fair on Saturday night with racing on Saturday and Monday with the Labor Day Classic.

After battling Devon Borden for the first 12 laps of Saturday night’s Kramer Klash at Lincoln Speedway, Chase Dietz took the lead on lap 13 and drove the #2D to the $7,300 victory. It was Dietz’s second win of the season and it ended a five race win streak for Freddie Rahmer.

In the 358 sprint car feature, Kyle Spence scored his second victory of the season by 1.871 seconds over Steve Owings. Kody Hartlaub was third and Frankie Herr crossed the line fourth. Kyle Keen completed the top five.

Next weekend, Lincoln Speedway is back in action with Dirt Classic X. Saturday is the Kickoff to the Classic, paying $10,000 to win and featuring the 410 sprint cars and 358 sprint cars.

Sunday is the Dirt Classic X, paying $20,000 to win for the 410 sprint cars. The extreme stocks will also be in action.

In last Friday’s action, Brent Marks completed the trifecta of claiming the three marquee memorial races at Williams Grove Speedway, claiming the 41st annual Jack Gunn Memorial for 410 sprint cars worth $8,000.

The Gunn victory comes on the heels of his wins in July’s Mitch Smith Memorial and April’s Tommy Hinnershitz Classic, giving the Myerstown driver a total of nearly $30,000 across the trio of wins.

In the winged super sportsman main, it was Kenny Edkin making a last-lap pass for the win while the win.

Williams Grove Speedway honored former champion sprint car owners Jim and Sandy Kline of Grantville on Friday when it presented the Jim and Sandy Kline Tribute Race for 410 sprint cars, paying $6,000 to win.
