2023 Sun-Gazette girls soccer all-star team

MAKENZI LEITENBERGER, HUGHESVILLE, FORWARD

The Spartans had a number of outstanding scoring threats all over the field and Leitenberger was one player who stood out. The senior scored 12 goals and had seven assists as the Spartans won the most amount of games in program history. Leitenberger was also a first-team HAC-2 all-star selection.

NYLAH FORD, WILLIAMSPORT, FORWARD

Ford had an outstanding junior year and helped propel the Millionaires offensively and earned HAC-1 first-team all-star honors. Ford led the team with 23 goals, averaging 1.2 per game, and was part of a dynamic duo alongside Elizabeth Shultz (15 goals, 11 assists). Ford was a huge reason the Millionaires got to the District 2-4 Class AAAA championship game this year and got better as the year progressed.

AVA EYER, MUNCY, FORWARD

Ava Eyer is just a freshman, but she made a huge impact from the get go and was a player defenses knew had to be contained. She had the fourth-most assists in the area with 14 and scored an impressive 16 goals, giving the Indians a potent four-person scoring threat. Eyer earned a first-team Mid-Penn all-star honors this year as a forward.

ADDI EYER, MUNCY, FORWARD

Addi Eyer was second on Muncy's team with 24 goals scored, behind only teammate Emilie Nagel (25) and was third in the area, behind Nagel and South's Ella Moore (36). Eyer also added nine assists and was a huge reason Muncy's offense was able to score goals in bunches.

MACKENZIE LOPEZ, MILTON, FORWARD

Lopez had a monster season for the Black Panthers. First, she became the program's only 50-goal, 50-assist player as she reached 77 career goals this year thanks to scoring 23 -- fourth most in the area -- and had 25 assists to reach 52 for her career. Her 25 assists were also the second-most in the area behind only Muncy's Emilie Nagel's impressive 29. It resulted in Lopez becoming Milton's first all-state player since 2009 and a HAC first-team selection.

ABBY AKERS, SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, MIDFIELD

Akers did a little bit of everything for South Williamsport. The junior could score and help spark the offense. She could control the midfield from a defensive perspective, or, if needed, she could play on the back line and prevent offenses from mounting counter attacks. That's what she did in the PIAA Class A quarterfinals, playing on the back line throughout the second half and both overtime periods to keep it a tight game. Akers ended the year with eight goals and 13 assists.

RAYGAN LUST, WARRIOR RUN, MIDFIELD

The Defenders went 15-6 and a huge part of that was because of Lust's playmaking abilities. Lust scored 23 goals, averaging 1.1 per game, and dished out 12 assists. Warrior Run had a lot of playmakers up top and in the midfield, and Lust helped open up the offense every game even if she wasn't scoring. She was a HAC-2 first-team all-star as well.

ELIZABETH SHULTZ, WILLIAMSPORT, MIDFIELD

If it wasn't teammate Nylah Ford scoring, there's a very good chance it was Shultz. The senior helped the team flourish and controlled the midfield. Shultz, a first-team HAC-1 all-star at midfield, scored 15 goals and had 11 assists, both second-most on the team this year. Shultz and Ford formed an impressive 1-2 scoring duo and no doubt Shultz's pressence will be missed next fall.

OLIVIA REGAN, SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, DEFENDER

The Mounties had big holes to fill in terms of defenders from last year, notably that of standout Brooklyn Lentz. But Regan stepped up and was solid. The junior was a big reason the Mounties played solid down the stretch and into the postseason as she helped shut down opposing forwards. Regan was a Mid-Penn all-star at defender this year.

ALYSSA RIVERA, LEWISBURG, DEFENDER

Rivera was a first-team HAC-1 all-star selection for the Green Dragons, one of just three to earn first-team honors for Lewisburg. Lewisburg only allowed 13 goals all year, and only twice allowed multiple goals in a game all year. Rivera was a huge reason for that defensive success.

NATALIE BENNETT, MONTOURSVILLE, DEFENDER

Montoursville's defense was rock solid this year. The Warriors gave up 14 goals all year and seven of those came to repeat PIAA Class AA champion Central Columbia. Warrior Run and Trinity were the only other schools who scored more than one goal against the Warriors and Bennett was a huge reason why. Bennett was a first-team HAC-1 all-star selection.

EMMA WOOD, MONTOURSVILLE, DEFENDER

As stated above, Montoursville was an extremely tough team to score against. Not many teams had numerous opportunities to put in a goal, and like teammate Natalie Bennet, Wood was a huge factor in that back line playing well. Wood was a first-team HAC-1 all-star selection and helped a defense which accounted for 13 shutouts, the most in the area.

ANNA BAYLOR, MONTOURSVILLE, GOALIE

Baylor was absolutely incredible throughout the year for Montoursville and came up time and time again with big saves. Baylor led the area with 13 shutouts and routinely kept Montoursville in games. Baylor was tested throughout the District 4 Class AA championship against Central Columbia and limited the Blue Jays to just three goals to keep Montoursville in the game. Baylor ended her career with an impressive 47 shutouts.
