Maddie Labatch hit five of Montoursville’s 10 3-pointers, helping the Warriors close their regular season with a 58-31 win at South Williamsport. Labatch scored a game-high 17 points with Jill Stone producing 13 and Nyla Kutney 12. Those two also hit multiple 3-pointers. Montoursville (8-14) will be seeded either No. 6 or 7 in the District 4 Class AAAA playoffs and play at either Jersey Shore or Shamokin in next week’s quarterfinals. Ella Moore scored 13 points for South and Abby Akers 10. The Mounties (7-15) currently are ninth in the Class AA standings but could possibly reach the playoffs if Line Mountain loses its final game against St. John Neumann and/or Canton loses against Sayre.
Nolah Moyer scored 15 points and made six steals, helping Muncy defeat North Penn-Liberty, 47-33. The Indians (13-8) likely will be the No. 2 seed in the District 4 Class AA playoffs, but can make it official if they win their finale against Sullivan County. Addi Eyer scored 11 points, dealt five assists and added five steals for Muncy which won its third straight game. Addi Gresh grabbed seven rebounds and blocked five shots. Haley Litzelman had 18 points, 13 rebounds, five blocks and five steals for North Penn-Liberty.
Kameron Lightner collected her fifth double-double, scoring 11 points, grabbing 12 rebounds and adding six steals in North Penn-Mansfield’s 37-35 loss against Towanda. The Tigers (13-9) have made a nine-win improvement this season and likely will be the No. 3 seed in the District 4 Class AA playoffs, likely hosting Northumberland Christian next week.
Sullivan County produced a fantastic comeback, rallying from 13 down at halftime and edging Montgomery on the road, 32-31. The Griffins allowed just four second-half points, two in each quarter, and closed the game on a 9-2 run. August Harney hit two fourth quarter 3-pointers and scored nine points, as did Ainsley Baldwin. Baldwin and Chloe Immel (8 points) combined for seven to spark the third quarter run. Falin Reynolds had a strong game for Montgomery with 17 points and five rebounds.
In boys’ basketball, Canton took a huge step toward reaching the District 4 Class AA playoffs as Talin Williams and Ben Fitch each produced double-doubles in a 72-64 win against Montgomery. With Canton (8-14), Montgomery (7-14) and South Williamsport (6-14) battling it out for two of the final three berths, Canton’s regular-season finale win likely will secure it one of those spots. Williams picked a good time to play his best game, scoring a career-high 26 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Fitch generated his 10th double-double, scoring 23 points and adding 10 rebounds, while Lance Route had 10 points and was 6 of 6 at the foul line in the fourth quarter. The Warriors went 16 of 18 at the line. Montgomery freshman Briar Persing scored a career-high 22 points, while Parker Bennett had 19 and Hayden Wilt 11. If Montgomery wins its finale against Millville and gets help from South’s opponents it likely will reach the playoffs.
Montoursville closed its regular season on a four-game winning streak, defeating South Williamsport, 67-29. The Warriors (16-6) will be seeded No. 2 in the District 4 Class AAAA quarterfinals next week and will likely host Lewisburg. Twelve players scored for Montoursville which built a 43-16 halftime lead. Quinn Ranck scored 12 points, Shea Ulmer 11, Chase Snyder nine and Bryce Eberhart eight. Jordan Baier led South with 13 points. The Mounties are fighting Montgomery for the final Class AA playoff berth and have two games remaining against Milton and Wellsboro.
Tyrick Moy and Joe Savage scored 14 points each but Minersville used a big third quarter to pull away for a 48-39 win. The Miners went on a 19-10 run to build an 11-point lead. The Knights (11-10) can clinch a home District 4 Class AA quarterfinal if they win their season finale at Jersey Shore.
Hayes Campbell collected his second straight double-double, going fo 18 points, 10 rebounds and three assists and helping Wellsboro defeat Benton, 50-26. Caden Smith dealt six assists for the Hornets (13-8) and Luke Rothermel had 13 points with six rebounds.
Louis Mercantino scored 20 points and Adynn Wheeland 13, with both adding four steals, as North Penn-Liberty defeated Towanda, 64-56, closing the regular season on a three-game winning streak. The Mounties also clinched the No. 2 seed for the District 4 Class A playoffs and will host a quarterfinal against the No. 7 seed to be determined next week. Blake Oakley had eight points, seven rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks for North Penn-Liberty which took a 19-point lead into the fourth quarter. Teagan Irish scored 36 points for Towanda, hitting four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.
North Penn-Mansfield clinched a first round District 4 Class AAA home game, closing the regular season on a four-game winning streak after defeating Cowanesque Valley, 70-55. Karson Dominick had a big game, producing a double-double of 31 points and 12 rebounds. Tayton Strange scored 13 points and Cooper Shaw 10 for North Penn-Mansfield (16-6), while Fletcher Good had 18 for CV (12-10). The Indians likely will be the No. 3 seed in the District 4 Class A quarterfinals and host a game.
Logan Kiess scored nine points and added two steals, but Central Columbia used a 49-point first half to cruise to a 62-25 win at Hughesville. The Spartans (9-13) will be the No. 8 seed in the District 4 Class AAA playoffs and play at either Loyalsock or Troy. Mason Kingery scored 18 points for Central (13-9), making five of his 3-pointers in the first half.
