With a 775 series and a 289 game in the Pat Grimes Memorial League last week, Karla Anderson out gunned Alicia Edkin's 710 series and 287 game in the Intercommunity League for top female honors. John Heck was high male for the second week in a row with a 788 series in the Saturday Night Moonlighter's League on the strength of a 300 game, his second of the week, having also bowled a perfect game in the Monday Night Classic League. Close behind was George Walton, who had to settle for a 299 game in the Faxon Classic League after that 120th pin refused to fall.
This week we remember 1974 local Hall of Fame Inductee, Mildred Shaeffer. Shaeffer was a Junior Bowler Instructor at the ABC Lanes, in the 1960's, which led to her and daughter Jeanne winning the National Mother/Daughter Bowling Tournament in 1964 and the Pa. State Mother/Daughter Tournament in 1965. Shaeffer also organized the Thursday Afternoon League, designed to enable women to learn to bowl.
Known to her friends as Millie, Shaeffer won over 30 trophies in many local leagues and participated in the Pennsylvania State Women's Tournament year-in-and-year-out during her 10-year bowling career which was cut short by her untimely death in 1967.
