YMCA swimmers finish strong at the state meet

The 2024 PA YMCA State Championship swim meet was held this past weekend at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. The River Valley Rapids swim team had four individual swimmers and a relay team participate in the meet and brought home several medals.

Top medal winner for the team was Christian Briggs, 12, with a fourth place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and fifth place finishes in both the 50-yard and 200-Yard Backstroke races. He also finished 13th in the 50 Yard Freestyle and 24th in the 200 Yard Freestyle. Briggs swam a personal best of 29:80 in the 50 Yard Back, a personal best of 1:03.04 in the 100 Yard Back, a personal best of 2:20.36 in the 200 Yard Back, a 26.99 in the 50 Yard Free and a 2:15.40 in the 200 yard free.

Lila Ross, 10, also brought home a sixth place medal in the 50 yard breaststroke with a personal best time of 39:33. Ross also placed 12th in the 50 yard free, 14th in the 100 yard breast, 11th in the 100 yard free and 13th in the 100 yard individual medley with a personal best time of 1:17.55.

The girls 10-and-under 200 yard freestyle relay team of Lila Ross, Morgan Stahl, Madelene Shultz and Kloey Smith brought home an eighth-place medal with a new best time of 2:06.85.

Stella Herrmann finished strong as well, placing 15th in the 50 yard butterfly with a time of 30:31 and 18th in the 100 yard butterfly with a new personal best time of 1:10.19.

Lucy Geyer also finished with a new personal best time in the 200 yard freestyle of 2:09.25, placing her at 14th in the state.
