After setting a pool record, a school record and earning all-conference accolades in two different events, Lycoming College women's swimmer senior Cathryn Brought, a Wellsboro graduate, was named the Lycoming College Most Outstanding Female Athlete at the Senior Athlete Celebration and Athletics Recognition Banquet.
Brought was the Landmark Conference runner-up in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles setting the school-record in the 100-yard freestyle at 53.58 and earning second-team All-Landmark honors in both events. She had a hand in 138 of women swimming's team's 171 points at the championships, helping the Warriors finish sixth in 10-team field. For good measure, she also set the pool record in the 100-yard individual medley at 1:02.94 against Penn State Altoona.
Showing what a versatile athlete that she is, Cathryn joined the softball team this spring to help the team's pitching depth event though she hadn't pitched since high school, appearing in seven games and striking out nine for the team.
• Seven Lycoming College student-athletes earned selection to the 2024 Landmark Conference All-Sportsmanship team.
The All-Sportsmanship team was created by the Landmark Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2013. The All-Sportsmanship team recognizes student-athletes who epitomize the ideals of sportsmanship. They are ambassadors for the team, on and off the field.
Those who are members of the All-Sportsmanship team are Montoursville graduate Nick Reeder (baseball), Dylan Seck (men's golf), Andrew Ednie (men's lacrosse), Josh Neidert (men's tennis), Kailey Stocker (women's lacrosse), Hiyori Iai (women's tennis) and Missy Van Klingeren (softball).
Reeder led the Warriors with a .340 batting average, 52 hits, 32 runs, 15 walks and 15 stolen bases, finishing 15th in the league in batting average, 11th in hits, tied for second with four triples and tied for 13th with 15 stolen bases. He had two 12-game hitting streaks during the season and had hits in 34 of the 40 games the team played in, plus he notched two or more hits 15 times, including three three-hit games.
Seck appeared in seven rounds during the 2023-24 season for the Warriors, posting a 94.71 scoring average. His best round was an 88 during the first round of Pennsylvania D3 Classic at Penn State.
A four-year letterwinner with the Warriors, Ednie enjoyed career high across the board in 2024, as he notched 14 goals, 10 assists and 24 points, also grabbing 15 ground balls and causing seven turnovers. He notched a career-high six goals and three assists in a nine-point effort at Keystone.
Neidert, in his second year on the team played anywhere from No. 2 to No. 4 in the singles lineup, winning one match. In doubles play, he notched four wins, playing primarily in the No. 2 slot.
Stocker finished third on the team with 31 goals, adding on six assists, 22 ground balls and five caused turnovers for the Warriors. She became the 17th player to reach 100 career goals in the team's final game of the season at Elizabethtown on April 30.
In her second year with the team, Iai led the Warriors with a 9-5 singles record, playing anywhere from No. 3 to No. 6 in the singles lineup. She also added two doubles wins, playing mainly in the No. 2 spot.
Van Klingeren, four-year letterwinner, appeared in six games, drawing two walks as a senior.
