Golf tip of the week: How to create a backspin in golf

Many golfers wonder about the secret to spinning the ball back on the green. It’s a feat that may seem elusive, but with consistent practice and the right technique, it's a skill that can be mastered.

A few factors must be considered if you want backspin on approach shots. First, you must strike the ball, then the turf. Many golfers hit the ground behind the ball, destroying any chance of inducing the desired spin to stop a ball, let alone backing it up.

To better understand backspin, imagine there is a string under the ball. After striking the ball, the string would remain, with the divot in front of the string line. Focus your eyes on the front of the ball. Considering the firmness of the putting surface, some greens make it impossible to stop or spin the ball back.

Don't forget to enjoy this great game called golf.
