Schuler throws no-hitter; reaches milestone as South Williamsport softball wins district quarterfinal

Alizabeth Schuler used her arm and bat to help South Williamsport blank Wyalusing, 15-0 in four innings in Friday’s District 4 Class AA quarterfinals. Schuler threw a no-hitter, went 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs and also reached 100 career hits as the Mounties (19-2) reached Tuesday’s semifinals at Elm Park against Troy. Schuler needed one hit to reach 100 entering the game and was one of nine players who had hits Friday.
Mikaiya Hills, Lily Reidy, Gianna Goodman and Abby Lorson all had two hits with Hills and Goodman beleting doubles and scoring five runs. Reidy (2 for 2) doubled and scored three times, while Lorson also doubled and drove in a run. Sage Lorson had a hit and two RBIs, while Maddie pInkerton and Emma McLaughlin both produced hits and runs.
Midd-West ended North Penn-Liberty’s District 4 Class AAA title reign, scoring three runs over the last two innings in a 5-2 semifinal victory. The Mounties (19-1) made history by becoming the first team in program history to win a district championship and state tournament game last year. They added another league championship this season, while running their regular season winning streak to 40 games. Addie Smith went 2 for 2 and Makenzi Tice struck out seven in six innings. The Mounties took a 2-1 first inning lead but Midd-West tied it in the third and went ahead to stay in the sixth. Pitcher Miley Beachel scattered four hits and struck out 15.
