First-round pairings for Little League World Series baseball, softball tournaments set

The Little League World Series first-round matchup pairings were announced for both the major baseball and softball tournaments.
The Softball World Series will be played Aug. 4-11 in Greenville, North Carolina and features 12 teams divided into two brackets.
The Baseball World Series will be held in South Williamsport from Aug. 14-25 with 20 teams competing.
In South Williamsport, the tournament begins with four games on Wednesday and four on Thursday. On Wednesday, Aug. 14, the Caribbean Region champion faces the Mexico Region champion at Volunteer at 1 p.m. The New England Region champion faces the West Region champion at Lamade at 3 p.m. The Asia-Pacific Champion plays the Canada Region champion at 5 p.m. at Volunteer. The Southeast Region champion plays the Midwest Region champion at Lamade at 7 p.m.
Thursday’s action will begin with Japan against Puerto Rico at Volunteer at 1 p.m. The Metro Region champion will play the Mountain Region champion at Lamade at 3 p.m. The Cuba Region champion will face the Europe and Africa Region champion at Volunteer at 5 p.m. The Southwest Region champion plays the Mid-Atlantic Region champion at 7 p.m. at Lamade.
Friday will see the Latin America Region champion, Great Lakes Region champion, Australia Region champion and Northwest Region champion all play against winners of games from the first day of action.
In Greenville for the Softball World Series, the tournament begins with the West Region champion against the Mid-Atlantic Region champion at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4. The Northwest Region champion plays the Southwest Region champion at 1p.m. The Latin America Region champion will face the Central Region champion at 4 p.m. The Asia-Pacific Region champion will play the host team from North Carolina at 7 pm.
On Monday, Aug. 5, the Canada Region champion will play the winner of Northwest/Southwest at 10 a.m. The New England Region champion will play the winner of the West/Mid-Atlatnic game at 1 p.m. The Europe and Africa Region champion will play either Asia-Pacific or North Carolina at 4 p.m. The Southeast Region champion will fae either Latin America or Central at 7 p.m.
In addition to first-round pairings, the brackets for each of the U.S. Regional tournaments were released online at the Little League website.
