St. John Neumann graduate Alize Johnson dismissed rumors that he left the Atleticos de San German basketball team he plays for unannounced.
Atleticos de San German, a team which competes in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional league in Puerto Rico, announced on Twitter/X that Johnson was not active with the team on Wednesday and left without prior notice. Johnson, who was a standout for the Golden Knights before playing at Missouri State and being drafted 50th overall in 2018 by the Indiana Pacers, responded to the rumors on Twitter/X on Wednesday night.
"I left the team for a very personal reason! I've been a team player since I arrived to atleticos my teammates can speak for me I plan on coming back to help my team win if possible, every game I played 110% if anyone knows me they know I would never leave a team unannounced," Johnson tweeted, adding a heart emoji at the end of the tweet.
The Atleticos de San German account tweeted in Spanish that "we regret this situation. Our franchise is a serious one and will always be respected."
Johnson played in the NBA from 2018-22 with the Indiana Pacers, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, New Orleans Pelicans and San Antonio Spurs, and had stints with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Raptors 905, Austin Spurs and Wisconsin Herd.
In 2023, Johnson signed with the Busan KCC Egis, a team that played in the Korean Basketball League, prior to signing with Atleticos de San German on May 15 of this year.
Johnson was a KBL champion in 2024 and an All-NBA G-League second team selection in 2021.
