Selinsgrove defeated Clinton, 19-9, in the Section 3 minor softball championship game to end Clinton’s summer. Clinton lost previously in the tournament to Selinsgrove, 4-0, and battled in the elimination bracket.
Selinsgrove jumped ahead 5-0 in the top of the first inning as 10 batters went through the lineup. Clinton responded with a two-run bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 5-2. Clinton held Selinsgrove scoreless in a three up, three down second inning.
Clinton then scored four runs in the bottom of the second and took its only lead of the game, 6-5. After a leadoff walk by Addy Marr, Skye Welshans would then reach on a walk with one out to put two runners on. A force out allowed a run to score followed by a walk and a single by Madison Edwards, driving in a run.
That lead, however, was short-lived. Selinsgrove saw nine batters step up to the plate in the third inning and Selinsgrove’s offense scored five runs to go back ahead, 10-6. Clinton would score just one more run the rest of the game as Selinsgrove scored nine runs over the final three innings.
Selinsgrove out-hit a solid Clinton team, 19-8. Chloe Shemory had a monster game for Selinsgrove by going 4 for 4, belting two doubles and scoring three runs. Alayna Beierschmitt was 3 for 4 while Hailey Kurtz went 2 for 2 with two doubles and Brianna Gray was 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Selinsgrove also saw Mya Callender go 3 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored.
Clinton was led by Josey McCann, who went 2 for 3 with a double, walk and run scored. Sienna Schneider was the only other Clinton batter with multiple hits as she was 2 for 4 with a double. Blake Houser went 1 for 3 with two runs scored and a walk and Edwards went 1 for 2 with a run scored. Audriana Tarantella, Cali Emel and Kyper Shadle all collected a single as well. Welshans reached base three times thanks to being walked.
