Local roundup: Williamsport boys defeat Mifflinburg
Williamsport’s boys soccer started the season strong with a 6-0 rout over Mifflinburg at Balls Mills. Brayden Ungard scored twice for the Millionaires while Tadd Ungard, Parker Johnson, Gabe Hill and Evan Brittain scored.
Connor Hofstrom, Terrell Brown, Todd Ungard, Brayden Ungard and Spencer Kaar dished out assists.
Landyn Burns and Alex Noviello scored twice in the first three-and-a-half minutes of the game to give Muncy an early two-goal lead it didn’t relinquish en route to a 3-1 win against Troy. Owen Woodward and Cayden Jacobs both had assists and Kyran Lismebee also scored.
Isaac Ayres scored four goals as Lewisburg opened the year with a 5-0 win against Warrior Run. Ayres scored twice in both half. Cohen Hoover added a goal for the Green Dragons.
Riley Gulden-Luthi had an assist, as did Hoover. Viktor Permyashkin dished out a team-high three assists. Lewisburg out-shot Warrior Run, 11-1, and Gabe Pawling recorded the shutout in goal for the Green Dragons.
Jersey Shore suffered a 3-0 loss to Wellsboro at home. Alex Citrino scored off a header by Gabe Sprouse for a 1-0 Green Hornet lead in the first half. Wellsboro would score twice in a roughly three-minute span from David Seeling off a free kick and Mason Brillo from an assist by River Moyer for a 3-0 lead.
Roman Dittmar had five saves for Jersey Shore and Tom Camden recorded four for the Green Hornets.
“We’ve been plagued by some injuries and sickness to start the season, which had us missing three of our seniors tonight,” Wellsboro coach Todd Fitch said. “With that said, we were glad to have players who could step in and make an impact.”
Montoursville earned a 3-0 win against South Williamsport. The Warriors led just 1-0 at halftime, but pulled away with two second-half goals. Bryce Winslow scored off a CJ Lucas assist in the first half. Lucas was assisted by Winslow in the second half and Adam Shearer scored in the 62nd minute to make it a 3-0 game.
• In girls soccer, Muncy opened the year with a tough loss against Troy, 3-0. Alexis McRoberts scored a first-half goal for Troy, which led 1-0 at the half. But just 40 seconds into the second half, Mallory Chamberlains cored to make it a 2-0 lead. Addi Gresh had seven saves for the Indians.
